We have just returned from the luxury resort of Daios Cove on the greek island of Crete. For any couple considering a Mediterranean wedding and/or honeymoon, the location of this stunning five star resort is second to none. Situated on a hillside in North East Crete, Daios Cove affords panoramic views of its neighbouring islands whilst also holding a quaint setting in its private cove.
The beauty of Daios Cove for a wedding venue, is it’s ability to provide a host of options for bride, groom and their guests whilst also maintaining a distinct element of luxury and personal service. The resort itself is stunning – the exterior design blends into natural surroundings with the use of original stone from the island.
A wedding party can easily be catered for with a range of seaview rooms, suites and villas with private pools. Those looking for the height of glamour and indulgence can, from June 2016, opt for ‘The Mansion’ – an exclusive state-of-the-art villa with heated indoor and outdoor pool, its own spa and staff quarters.

Arriving at Daios Cove couldn’t be more breathtaking as sweeping panoramic vistas of the bay and its islands provide a dramatic greeting. Due to the resort being set on the side of a hill it is necessary to take the hotel’s glass inclinator to each level of the hotel. Guests are welcomed with a drink at the stylish Crystal Box, an open-air bar which could easily be placed amongst the more chic and understated beach clubs of Ibiza and which would be a beautiful spot for couples to host drinks for their wedding guests.
We stayed in a deluxe sea view room with pool – this room opens up onto a decked balcony and its own private infinity plunge pool. Waking early and sitting on the balcony whilst watching the morning light on the cove below, was, for us, one of the most pleasurable experiences. The Sapphire Ring Honeymoon Package includes this suite and a romantic turndown service of rose petals and honeymoon decor plus a bottle of wine and a platter of fruit.
Daios Cove CreteIf you are a lover of gastronomy then Daios Cove aims to please all palates with a range of dining options. We loved the greek Taverna with it’s authentic dishes including a delicious mixed grill and seafood salads. The Taverna has a pretty outdoor setting overlooking the beach and on certain evenings Greek dancers perform making it a truly lovely atmosphere.

Passing the time at Daios Cove can be as low key or fast paced as you like. If you want to go all out and have an adventure you can hire one of the resort’s luxury yachts or take a Champagne helicopter ride to Santorini. If you want to just chill-out, then the resort is the perfect place to do so. We opted for more low-key alternatives like relaxing on the private beach, enjoying delicious cocktails by the pool and indulging ourselves in spa treatments.
The Spa at Daios Cove
No honeymoon or pre-wedding experience is complete without at least one spa treatment and Daios Cove has devoted an entire level of the resort to relaxation in a zen spa environment. Voted as one of the leading spa resorts in Greece, it has state of the art facilities including a range of wet room experiences including a Finnish Sauna; a hydrotherapy pool and a Thai massage studio. Couples can have treatments together in the Raxul Spa Suite where holistic experiences include the use of steam, aroma and music therapy.
Daios Cove Indoor PoolWe enjoyed a back, neck and shoulder massage which in its simplicity, was the most relaxing spa treatment we could have asked for. Our therapist was expert at delivering a firm massage that worked away long standing knots. The treatment is finished with a lovely cup of lemon and honey tea in the relaxation area.

Who doesn’t enjoy a spot of retail therapy whilst on their honeymoon? Daios Cove has a selection of shops that make a nice afternoon break from the pool. We loved the high end beach wear shop Apoella which stocks a contemporary collection of beach jewellery, accessories, swimwear and kidswear, many of which come from greek designers.

Your wedding at Daios Cove can be tailor-made with the help of the on-site wedding coordinator. Whether you’re looking for a large affair with all your guests staying at the resort or a more private day with close friends and family enjoying one of the large villas or The Mansion, it is without a doubt that everyone will enjoy this magical beachfront setting. For couples wanting to extend their stay and spend their honeymoon here, there are several packages catering to various needs and budgets.
Our stay at Daios Cove was luxurious but full of Greek charm and authenticity. Everything has been thought of here, from the the little pockets of peacefulness dotted around the resort where guests can retreat, to the delicious variety of food and the cool Balearic beats playing in the beach bars. Couples can be as private or involved in the resort as they like meaning it is the perfect place for a modern bride and groom to celebrate their love.
