5 Inspirational Designers At Barcelona Bridal Week 2015

This week we are reporting back from 2015’s Barcelona Bridal Fashion week where 200 brands and over 10,000 wedding gowns will be revealed for 2016.  We bring you five of our favourite shows from the new collections being showcased at Fira de Barcelona’s Gran Via Exhibition Centre.

Rosa Clara

Barcelona’s glitterati were out in force to witness the week’s opening show by esteemed designers Rosa Clara’s.  Setting the bar high, this was a show for bold and modern brides.  Traditional gowns were reconstructed with wide belts to accentuate waists and split skirts to cheekily show a bit of leg.

Grecian minimalism saw models in simple white pleats accessorised only by thin bands of embroidery on the neckline, waist and tulle gloves.

More regal and historic looks were delivered in fabrics such as Mikado and Ottoman silk, bringing a new and more structured texture to gowns of the past few seasons.

Most pleasing to her front row guests, no doubt, were the glamorous hollywood inspired dresses where bare shoulders, jewel encrusted waistbands and layers of shimmery beads paraded down the runway in all their glory.

Jesus Peiro

Jesus Peiro made contemporary ethereal theirs, with inspiration being “A Hindu princess walking barefoot on translucent snow”.  Dresses were intricately adorned with metallic flowers and brocade while iridescent fabrics portrayed icy luminosity.

Jesus Peiro

White netted lace fabrics morphed into embroidery anglaise, long draping string necklaces and bohomian headresses were all looks that set Jesus Peiro apart from other designers.

Angelic shoulders adorned with feathers created a dreamy feel across the catwalk whilst the whole ethnicity of the collection nodded to the alternative bride whose ideals encompass an earthy femininity.

Sabrina Saree

Sabrina Saree brought Haute Couture to the catwalk with her wacky veil hats and androgynous saree gowns in luxurious plain white.  Puffed Sleeves were complimented by tassle draping and sequins while feather covered corsets paraded down the catwalk next to gowns in hues of pastel and aquamarine.

Taking brides to a new level of artistically inspired gowns, these beautiful fluid fabrics would beguile any groom. We think If ever there was a bridal designer for today’s Indian wedding then Sabrina would be it.

Natalie Capell

The Catalan designer Natalie Capell brought some dark gothic drama to the runway with black and monochrome pieces all intricately detailed with her signature stitch-work.

Soft black slips with Tulle overlay were accompanied by simple long white scarves.  Capped sleeves and embroidered peepholes around the front and back of the neck demurely revealed models pale skin.

Kimono inspired backless tops were surprisingly more revealing, especially when paired with a low V back shoestring strap dress.

Variations on monochrome and palettes of grey were created with white slips under black tulle and vice versa. Floaty, elegant and perfectly cut, Natalie Capell’s latest collection exudes modern dignity.

Yolan Cris

High necks, boat necks, low backs, keyhole – Yolan Cris’s ability to deliver anything and everything was more than apparent on their runway.  Handcrafted flower appliques were strategically placed leaving nothing to the imagination – some were white while others burst with hues of purple and green.

Victorian designs including long sleeves and full length skirts, challenged overzealous embroidery anglaise where skin was there to be seen.

Polka dot lace ponchos and short skirts under long embellished Tulle projected a playful bride for 2016 while slinky figure hugging gowns fell to the floor for ultimate red carpet glamour.

Traditions ruled over high fashion however with the final piece de resistance providing lashings of lace and applique intertwined into a beautiful big bridal skirt.  A subtle train, simple long veil and golden crown were the icing on this design duo’s very beautiful wedding cake.
