What’s Set To Rock The Wedding World In 2014

From attending international catwalk shows and visiting flower markets, to meeting suppliers and sourcing inspiration, Hawke & Hughes are at the forefront of the latest trends. Here they share their predictions on what’s set to rock the wedding world in 2014.

Chandelier Love

Alternative lighting has become a hugely popular trend with festoon lighting and show stopping illuminated letters gracing the pages of real weddings throughout 2013. The New Year will see a resurgence of the chandelier, especially effective when used in creative or unexpected settings. Adorning a marquee or barn, an opulent chandelier can add a touch of elegance and glamour to the most rustic of wedding venues.

Radiant Orchid

With Pantone’s Radiant Orchid set to be the colour of 2014, purple tones are sure to lead the way for the year ahead. Described as an enchanting harmony of fuschia, purple and pink undertones, Radiant Orchid is set to inspire everything from bridesmaids’ attire to floral blooms – perfectly in keeping with the trend of using fresh herbs such as English Lavender.

Suited and Booted

Inspired by the glamour of Downton Abbey and The Great Gatsby, couples are seeing their wedding day as the perfect opportunity to ask guests to go the extra mile in the style stakes. Already hugely popular in the US, couples will begin to specify a strict dress code such as formal black tie for their celebrations – ideal if you are hosting a winter or New Year celebration.

City Chic

Spotted on the runways of Monique Lhuillier, Marchesa and Oscar De La Renta, and worn by Hollywood starlet Keira Knightly for her French nuptials, short gowns are making a huge comeback. From frilly tulle numbers to lace tea dresses, many more brides are bearing their pins. Also a great option for an evening reception for those brides wanting to sport an alternative look after dusk. Hawke & Hughes’ top tip for those raising the hemline would be to invest in a pair of truly show-stopping shoes. From crystal embellished Louboutins to bright and bold platforms, ensure your footwear says as much about your individual style as your gown does.

Feathers & Fur

For those hosting a wedding during the winter months there is an abundance of accessories and cover-ups to choose from. Spotted throughout bridal fashion shoots, feather capes and fur stoles in shades of ivory, peach and grey are the wow worthy accessory for 2014. For those not needing additional layers, feathers can be incorporated in other accessories such as fans, clutches and headbands – creating a soft romantic bridal look.

Lets get personal

‘Personalisation’ is the buzz word of 2014. With so many options out there for customisation, it has become the simplest way to inject your own personal style on your day. From monogramed invites, favours and even candles there are so many opportunities to ‘brand’ your wedding, however the key to rocking this look successfully is less is more. Choose a few key elements of your day to monogram such as your napkins or dance floor in order to create a chic look without going overboard.

Wedding Day Trends 2014

Outdoors – Indoors

Bringing the outdoors in is set to be the biggest reception décor trend for 2014, as seen at Monique Lhuillier’s Fall 2014 catwalk show during New York Bridal Week, during which a romantic garden setting was brought to life through delicate silver and rose gold floral, lattice and vine motifs. Always one step ahead Hawke & Hughes designed a secret garden inspired wedding earlier this year – during which the banqueting room at The Landmark Hotel was transformed into a magical garden for a lavish affair
