About The Spirit of Christmas Fair   

The Spirit of Christmas Fair first launched in 2001 

Visitor numbers were 50,000 in 2021 

Organised by Clarion Events and home to superb shopping, exclusive offers from unique boutique brands and exquisite dining 

The show is sister to The Spirit of Summer Fair which is also held once a year at Kensington Olympia  .

It’s that time of year when gorgeous candles fill our homes with beautiful, luxurious fragrance to lift our wintery spirits and create a cosy atmosphere. Diptyque candles have to be some of our very favourites, but the famous Parisian brand started life a little differently.

The little shop on the corner

Two of the founders, Christiane Gautrot, an interior designer and Desmond Knox-Leet, a painter, collaborated, designing fabric and wallpaper for Liberty and Sanderson. Opening a shop on Paris’ Boulevard Saint-Germain in 1961 to display these exquisite designs they were joined by Yves Coueslant, a theatre director and set designer and they created a beautiful bazaar from which to sell their fabrics alongside one of a kind trinkets they picked up on their travels around the world.

The candles arrive

Soon these objects and fabrics were joined by candles, fragranced with rich exotic scents and capturing the senses of Paris. Their first scents were Aubépine, Cannelle and Thé (Hawthorn, Cinnamon, Tea), gracing the shelves as Diptyque’s first candles and not long after, in 1968, a signature scent was created and sold as an eau de toilette –  simply called L’eau and inspired by a 17th century potpourri recipe with notes of cinnamon, rose, clove, geranium and sandalwood.

More beautiful fragrances

Diptyque’s creations were inspired by the travels of their founders and soon a myriad of fragrances found their way to the little boutique’s shelves.

Diptyque meets Chanel

Skip forward to 1983 and Karl Lagerfeld steps into the chief designer shoes at Chanel and looks for a signature scent to fragrance Chanel stores. Searching for beauty and style, he chose Diptyque’s Baies to enchant customers. A bouquet of roses, sweetened with blackcurrant leaves, the fragrance graced Chanel boutiques, as well as the runways themselves as Lagerfeld placed candles on the catwalk whilst models, displayed Chanel’s latest collection, and Diptyque’s popularity grew.

The oval

The iconic Diptyque oval echoes the shape of an 18th-century Roman medallion which was part of a 1963 fabric design by founder Knox-Leet. Representing a shield, the signature shape can be found on all Diptyque products with their famous address filling the rim – 34 Boulevard Saint-Germain, where their store still stands today.

Celebrities and famous faces the world over have been captivated by the stunning Diptyque fragrances. Princess Diana loved the cinnamon scented Cannelle, Victoria Beckham’s favourite is Figuier, and Beyonce famously said that even when she was away from home she had someone light Vanille Diptyque candles in her home to make sure the scent was beautifully bound to her pillows.

So what’s next?

Diptyque now create beautiful home fragrances, body fragrances and face and body products and for 2017’s Christmas season have produced a beautifully handcrafted ornament. Iridescent and with solar effects, each piece is unique and in the darkness or daylight this pretty orb takes on the brilliance of a fire.

British through and through, Jaguar is the quintessential car brand for those after a little luxury. Founded in 1922 as the Swallow Sidecar Company by two motorcycle enthusiasts, the company made motorcycle sidecars before moving on to make bodies for passenger cars. In 1945 they changed their name to Jaguar and a British institution was born.

Making a name for themselves by producing a series of successful sports cars including the world-renowned E-Type, Jaguar gained success in international motorsport through the 1950s and 1960s. Jaguar won the Le Mans 24 hour race three times in 1951, 1953 and again in 1955, although this final victory was overshadowed by the worst motorsport accident in history when 83 spectators were killed and 180 sustained injuries from fire and flying debris after a collision.

Equipped with machine guns, missiles and ballistics, the Jaguar XKR used in Die Another Day was certainly well equipped for the silver screen. And the James Bond franchise continued to use Jaguars through Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, Skyfall and Spectre, although the main man himself prefers an Aston Martin!

Jaguar holds royal warrants, supplying Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles with their chosen motors. The Queen famously loves driving and can regularly be seen driving through Windsor Great Park, as only she and the groundskeepers are allowed to do.

To add to their impressive car collection the Beckhams are said to own a number of Jaguars including an F-Type and an E-Type.

Harrison Ford is also a big fan of Jaguar The Star Wars star reportedly owns a racing green XK 140 worth an estimated $150,000. And of course Simon Cowell has one too! His 1965 convertible E-Type was featured on Top Gear and the music mogul snapped it up for a cool £650,000.

Amara: Amara was launched 10 years ago growing from a small interiors shop to the largest independent luxury online retailer housing over 300 brands including the likes of Roberto Cavalli and Missoni Home. Whilst quietly  providing a gift list service to our existing clients we decided to finally launch the website in September 2012 to develop our luxury gifting offerings online.

5 Star Weddings: How does the Amara gift list service work?

Amara: Our gift list service is really quick and easy to use requiring only a few basic steps. Once set up you are free to explore the website and choose as many or as few gifts as you wish. It is also extremely simple for your guests to use and leave a message, all of which is recorded on your personal page so you can always see who has bought what.

5 Star Weddings: How does the Amara gift list differentiate from other list options out  there?

Amara: Our service is totally bespoke in terms of what we can offer our clients. When a wedding list is created we assign a designated wedding list coordinator to help our clients every step of the way. We offer a huge selection of brands as well as being able to source other collections that we may not currently hold stock of.

I think one of our most popular  features that differentiates us from other gift list services is the flexibility you have after your wedding. 5 Star Weddings: Do you host any exclusive brands or collections?

Amara: At present we hold stock of a few exclusive products from Mulberry, Abyss & Habidecor and of course our Amara own brand bed linen and soft furnishings! We do have a few things in the pipeline which are top secret but soon to be revealed! What would you say is the perfect brand for a kitchen savvy bride? It’s always hard to say as everyone has their own style but I personally love the Bugatti collection! It is available in a variety of bright colours which can add a great spruce of colour to your kitchen!

Amara: The plan for 2015 is to continue to support all existing and future clients offering them an ever growing range of luxury home wares and accessories! Who knows what exciting things may crop up!

Amara: Everyone has their own perception of what a 5 star wedding is but I think it is simply personal choice! After browsing many wedding blogs and seeing lots of real life features I absolutely love those with real personality and style!
