You no longer have to travel to Tuscany or Provence to get married in a vineyard. America Brewer, the owner of Oastbrook Vineyard in East Sussex shares her top tips and ideas on how to style a vineyard wedding.
Agree on your top wedding styles – When you are first engaged you to become aware of all the possible styles to choose from and it can be a bit overwhelming, pinning down what matters to you most is a great first step but it can take a while – but you have time so don’t worry! With a variety of locations both inside and outside styling, a vineyard wedding offers couples a huge range of options from Boho to summer glamour, romantic, natural, rustic, whimsical or classic with a twist.
A vineyard wedding is a festival of natural beauty and that offers great opportunities to feed your creativity. In a vineyard. In a vineyard, the wedding ceremony might be held outdoors or indoors, and you can tune in your styling to reflect the surrounding landscape. A vineyard wedding is a celebration of the pairing of food, wine and local produce so you can bring all those elements into the mix. The stunning Oastbrook vineyard has much more to add with a tropical palm-lined pool area, the backdrop of a fairy-tale Oasthouse and a Hobbit House and Rivendell themed tasting room.
We often decide on a natural style with a twist of Boho and glamorous with a summery Tuscan sub-theme. This suited the relaxed easygoing ambience of Oastbrook and allows us to explore both themes both in the vineyard and inside for the reception.
Create a mood board – Set up a Pinterest mood board to explore the colour palette and themes with your collaborators. It gives you a huge amount of inspiration once you seed the board with a few ideas. We went with a natural wood and vibrant natural colour and brightly coloured fruits to capture that Tuscan theme of open space and outside dining. Once you get going with some key ideas Pinterest will make some suggestions – we were amazed by how many things you could do with a lemon!
Break your styling down into discrete sections but keep continuity – there are many spaces to consider – the ceremony, cocktails, reception and wedding breakfast but make sure that the themes that you have chosen run through all the sections so it feels like a journey through a story. We opted for glamorous natural for the ceremony, the helicopter elopement and the afternoon chill out by the pond, glamorous for the poolside cocktails and natural chic for the reception and full-on natural Tuscany for the wedding breakfast
Don’t be afraid re-use some items through the day. We had a beautiful jasmine floral arch and it looked wonderful as an entrance to the vines but could be re-used as a floral arch for the ceremony and even as an entrance into the Rivendell themed tasting room. You can take the floral displays from the ceremony and re-use them for the table decorations or the wedding breakfast. The beautifully polished wood tables looked great with different runners in the tasting room and the wedding breakfast.
Do something quirky and very you – there is a little bit of eccentricity in us all and its great to express this part of your personality at your wedding. Through a little to the wind and share your passion with your guests, whether this is for art, books, fairy -tales and weave that into some part of your day. At Oastbrook we have a ready-made Lord of the Rings theme for you with our stunning Rivendell Elvin themed tasting room.
Oastbrook Estate in East Sussex offers inspiring choices to couples and quirky touches from the award-winning Hobbit house to the Rivendell influenced Tasting room. From the tropical, palm tree-lined, pool area, reminiscent of her Brazilian heritage to the cabana bar this venue is as exotic as it is stunningly beautiful with views across the Rother valley.
Registered ceremonies are possible in the Gazebo with eye-catching views across the vineyard or in the Tasting Room, with its vaulted oak beams and wrap-around elevated balcony or alternatively celebrant weddings with a floral arch in the vineyard itself. The vineyard lends itself beautifully to a Mediterranean themed wedding breakfast between the vines.
Whether relaxing in a hammock by the pond, which is fed by a natural spring or storytelling with friends the fire pit or glamping in the nearby field the venue offers a multitude of relaxing locations for guests to socialise.
You can even fly in or depart by helicopter. Set against the iconic backdrop of a traditional Sussex Oasthouse redolent of an English chateau you have all the elements for the perfect fairy-tale wedding.
