New York Fashion Week – our top picks

New York Fashion Week 2016 may be over for another year, but we’ve loved every second of it! It may not have been our usual offerings of bridal white lace, tulle and silk (keep an eye out for New York Bridal Week – we can’t wait!) but we thought we’d take a moment to tell you about our five top picks from the catwalks.

Oscar de la Renta

This year, there wasn’t a high heel in sight on the de la Renta catwalk. All models were in a range of flat sandals, which may have avoided a Bella Hadid style tumble! The collection showcased easy to wear, beautiful high end fashion. Feathers, pearls and ruffles galore, signature de la Renta was evident throughout.

Vera Wang

A favourite among brides, the ready-to-wear collection was a far cry from any bridal attire! Dark corsets, oversized pearls and peplum miniskirts featured on the runway along with long – very long – sleeves. This created an ethereal, even ghoulish effect that we actually rather liked.

Monique Lhuillier

As usual, Monique Lhuillier offered a dreamy collection of sumptuous evening wear, this year, with edgy black accents – a belt here, a scarf there – giving the dresses’ soft colours a little kick. We saw neck-to-hem rose gold sequins, feathers, embroidery and intricate beading alongside some sexy thigh high splits, plunging necklines and the sheerest of fabric – perfect for any red carpet.

Jenny Packham

A favourite among A-listers, Jenny Packham’s Fashion Week offering did not disappoint. Thirty-one looks glided down the runway, each inspired by a different, stylish muse. We saw a Florence Welch inspired look alongside classic Elizabeth Taylor, Jennifer Lawrence and Courtney Love. She captured these strong female personalities perfectly, transferring them into her bold collection. Bright colours, exquisite beading and gorgeous fabrics in blacks, golds and bronzes graced the catwalk. A really strong, inspired collection.

Marchesa

This collection took us on the journey through a day – from sunrise to darkness. A gorgeous transitional show featuring pieces from light pinks – the sunrise – to silvery blues and silvers, sunlit wheat fields of gold, and then to the black of night. Florals and fringes in abundance as well as lavish embroidery ensured an impressively beautiful show, and the models themselves sported on-trend ‘clean beauty’ – barely there make up to make the pieces really stand out.
