If (you’ll need your eyes closed for this one), you have your heart set on a magical winter wedding? You will probably be thinking of a roaring fireplace, an abundance of floral blooms cascading from every orifice, with you centre stage, adorned in the most stunning couture gown.  And you would be right.  Why?  Let’s face it.  A winter wedding comes with a whole host of benefits, not least the fact that you will appreciate getting the best prices across the board for the most expensive elements, which means that you don’t have to scrimp or save on your dream.

CREATING THE BEST EXPERIENCE

Choosing to create a bespoke gown means doing your homework too and placing your order at least 12 months ahead, ensures you have plenty of time to secure a choice spot with a dress designer of your choice, avoiding the stress of the summer season, and having your dress made at a relaxed and calm pace – plus, the added benefit of getting first pick of dates to reserve a dresser for the big day. It also means you can schedule your dress fittings over a longer period to avoid the stress of last-minute fittings when you are at your busiest, closer to your wedding date. 

THE RIGHT FABRIC IS EVERYTHING.

Once you begin designing your wedding dress, every aspect requires careful planning well in advance to secure your fabric choice.  The post-Covid market has meant that many suppliers now maintain a limited stock of their catalogue, which has increased wait times to several weeks as they compile new orders for restock.  From late October to early spring, suppliers show new textile collections, which also means you have the choice to pick new designs before everyone else!  

A winter wedding dress requires careful consideration of the season. We agree that it will be cold, and your priority will be comfort and warmth.  Even if the venue allows you exclusive use to stay indoors and move between spaces, using the outdoor spaces for photography will ensure that you are perfectly dressed throughout the day.  

Our recommendations and fabric selections will vary based on the overall dress budget. However, we are a firm fan of the family of silk textiles traditionally used in the making of bespoke dresses, from tailored gowns to elaborate ball gowns, for their ability to breathe and retain warmth whilst looking spectacular from beginning to end. There are numerous contemporary weaves and textures that incorporate evolving fashion, so there is no need to feel staid or out of time in an ageing design. Let’s face it, winter weddings are magical experiences, and a tailored silk wedding dress is undeniably the icing on the cake.

WARMTH

How you choose to stay warm is a matter of personal preference.  Whilst most winter brides choose to keep their bespoke gowns timeless, opting for long sleeves, I do love working with my brides to create a look that is “built around” her needs and preferences; for which, the beauty of a couture bespoke design lends itself perfectly for the bride who dislikes the restrictions of ready-made products.  

Options for staying warm can be designed as separate pieces that create a cohesive look whilst allowing transitions throughout the day as needed. In fact, nothing is impossible when you know exactly what you want.  Our goal is to work with you to achieve it, taking full advantage of the many options along the way.

DESIGNING THE PERFECT DRESS FOR THE VENUE

If you have opted for an intimate wedding at your favourite Landmark hotel, then a dress that reflects the space and size of the venue might be more appropriate than say a ball gown with a cascading train and veil to match.  Décor, venue style, architecture, and other elements all play a part in the overall design.  They are key points and sources of inspiration for a couture bridal gown.  Sweeping staircases, chandeliers, ornate details, Neo-classical architecture, and high painted ceilings are all elements that will inspire and influence the finer details 

ADDING COLOUR TO YOUR BRIDAL ATTIRE

There really is no need to panic and go overboard with colour simply because of the season.  A gentle nod is all that is required, and splashes of seasonal colour can be introduced in a myriad of ways.  The same goes for choosing the colour of the gown. There are many shades of Ivory, ranging from dark to porcelain and everything in between.   If you set your heart on gold, champagne, cappuccino, latte, garden rose, forest green or claret, then the world is your oyster for choices – after all, you make the rules. 

WAYS TO TRANSITION FROM DAY TO EVENING

If you choose to go from arriving in a long-sleeved ball gown with a veil and train for the ceremony to a strapless mini sheath or trouser jumpsuit dress for the evening look, this can all be perfectly designed as part of the overall bridal package and not necessarily require several outfits, just clever design and consideration.  Having a separate set of jewellery items, a gorgeous clutch, and a different-coloured lipstick for the night is effortless on the day and can be completed in less than 20 minutes as you refresh and recharge, ready to party!  

The added benefit of creating a gown that allows for transitions is that you will have several pieces that can be reworked and re-worn, ensuring you do your part for our planet.

The grandiosity of oversized blooms defined the ambience, creating a bold statement that was visually striking and deeply symbolic of nature’s lavish bounty. These elements were juxtaposed with the delicate interplay of rich, high-end fashion, crafting an editorial narrative that was as daring as elegant.

Our floral designs celebrate the natural world’s awe-inspiring beauty at the cusp of spring. We endeavoured to capture this fleeting beauty within the majestic confines of Hawkstone Hall, enhancing its already splendid atmosphere. The selection of British-grown tulips, anemones, and hellebores was not merely about their visual appeal but a tribute to the intricate beauty of nature. Each arrangement was carefully crafted, focusing on detail, texture, and scent to create a multi-sensory experience that would linger in the memory of all who beheld it.

The fashion narrative of this editorial was carefully curated to echo the themes of French romance and couture elegance. Gowns adorned with voluminous bows and billowing tulle were more than just garments; they were a testament to the artistry and elegance of high fashion. Trend 1 – Dare to Bare

Sheer dresses took centre stage on this season’s catwalk. Our designers reimagined traditional bridal gowns, infusing them with a dose of sensuality and sophistication by strategically incorporating sheer fabric into the dresses. Designers played with texture, including delicate laces, tulles, and chiffons to create see-through wonders: and this transparent detailing added a feminine, elegant and ethereal air. Marking this Jeune dress as a standout, the team included huge sheer bishop sleeves in contrast against the fitted bodice. Diane Legrand’s trouser suit included a frothy attached skirt and sheer cape top, adorned with floral appliqué for a delicate touch. Sasha Loochi switched things up on the catwalk: embroidered butterflies were scattered across the gown, which was completed with a thigh-high leg split and basque detail for a playful look.

Trend 2 – The Mini Moment

Mini bridal dresses made a bold and unforgettable statement on the bridal catwalk this Autumn. Departing from the traditional floor-length gowns, designers embraced the spirit of modernity and playfulness by introducing shorter hemlines for a youthful and vivacious charm. Whether it was a chic cocktail-length dress or a flirtatious tea-length creation, these designs redefined the traditional bridal look. Sasha Loochi featured a strappy number, complete with visible bodice boning and a front lace-up skirt. Jessica Couture introduced a cool, contemporary tailored suit with a nod to 80’s fashion, with puffed sleeves and pockets: what more could you ask for? The Dando London dress took a sexy route, sleeveless and fitted, adding a detachable skirt and sleeves for the brides that are wanting to mix things up from aisle to afterparty.

Trend 3 – That Something Extra

Detachable trains and capes also emerged as a fun trend on this year’s runway. Offering an array of exquisite gowns featuring flowing capes that cascaded gracefully from the shoulders, or detachable trains for an extra oomph, our designers used removeable elements to switch up their looks. The Loré bridal suit was complemented by a high-necked tailored cape, adding to the sleek and sophisticated ensemble. Walking the catwalk with a gorgeous beaded two-piece, Rachel Allan’s prom collection also showcased a detachable tangerine train add intrigue and drama to their feathered cuff one-piece. Moonlight Bridal opted for a light, detachable piece with lace detailing to add an ethereality to the slim fitting mermaid gown.

Trend 4 – Feathers and Frills

Searching for something whimsical? The Fashion Show hosted feathers and frills galore this Autumn. Whether used sparingly as accents or covering entire skirts, designers embraced the idea of lavish texture and playfulness, adorning their gowns with intricate details that added that extra slice of opulence. Kelsey Rose’s contemporary jumpsuit was adorned with feathers that peeked out of the bodice, leaving a lasting impression on our visitors. The Sophia Tolli gown held stunning cascading ruffles on its A-line skirt, that swayed and danced with every step, and the sheer tiered sleeves on the Evie Young gown offered a dynamic and exciting twist.

Trend 5 – Pretty in Pastel

This season, designers unveiled a stunning array of wedding dresses in delicate pastel hues, ranging from soft blush pinks, serene mint greens and powdery blues. These gentle shades allow brides to infuse their wedding day look with a touch of personal flair. These pastel-coloured gowns breathe new life into the bridal world, offering brides a chance to embrace a more soft, romantic and whimsical look. The stunning Madi Lane dress was adorned with botanical embellishment, which trailed the dress and also made their way into the matching detachable puff sleeves. Fox Bridal offered a soft pink fairytale look, with a tulle skirt and bardot bodice overlay. Simply Divine shook things up, gracing the runway with a vibrant pastel-purple gown, with a transparent boned bodice and glittering butterfly embellishment for an enchanted look.

Trend 6 – Clean Lines

A refreshing departure from the elaborate designs, the runway also presented the timeless elegance of simple and straight-neck dresses. Our designers proved that sometimes less is indeed more, celebrating clean lines and minimalist aesthetics without the distraction of intricate embellishments. The Ellis gown focused on the purity of form and craftsmanship, showcasing a buttery soft satin that tapers in at the waist. Two floral drop sleeves infuse the Ellis gown with a romantic twist. Romantica similarly opted for the clean cut: a panelled straight neck bodice and simple bardot sleeves which gave way to a full skirt, and complemented by a delicate beaded belt. The White Studio London gown took a traditional silhouette, but played with detail and texture for a boho twist.

Trend 7 – Peekaboo

Peekaboo bodice dresses also made their mark on the Bridal Week runway, offering a modern and alluring twist to the traditional bridal gown. These enchanting creations masterfully blend modesty and sensuality by incorporating neckline detailing. Shane Moore showcased a ruffled bodice with a burst of floral appliqué to draw the eye to a stunning sweetheart neckline. Similarly, Rachel Allan Bridal’s lilac gown incorporated sparkle cups, offering glitz and glamour in a unique and tasteful way. Evie Young presented their perfect craftsmanship once more, with dress that wowed the crowd: an intricately pleated, sheer panelled bodice with floral embellishment, deep neckline and romantic dropped sleeves.

Justin Alexander – 99233 Bobbie. Couture craftsmanship is unmistakable in this striking A-line wedding gown. Designed in a lavish butter satin, the sweetheart neckline is decorated with laser-cut satin flower embellishments with tonal beading for an unexpected play on texture. The 3D flowers continue along the detachable straps creating an off-the-shoulder neckline. Intricate seaming details the bodice, while the asymmetrical pleated skirt reveals a slit to show off a sexy pop of skin. Hidden pockets and satin-covered buttons cascading to the end of the train are the finishing touches.
