A most rebellious and beautiful era of modern bridal wear is upon us. We just love the new Vera Wang Bride Fall 2016 Collection

Earlier this year we saw Vera Wang’s new direction with her gothic, delicate Spring 2016 line; spiderweb style lace, translucent silk, and fluttering ostrich feathers in luminous white accented with matte black finishes made for a dramatic line of modern gowns. Now we have the Fall 2016 collection too, a natural evolution from the lighter, ‘barely there’ spring dresses into more plush creations, with bountiful layers of silk and rich passimentarie detailing. There’s a subtle ‘80s nod in the shorter, tutu style hemlines of some of the gowns, and hints of the glamorous pre-grunge New York vibe of Madonna in the ‘Desperately Seeking Susan’ era. In fact, I think it’s safe to say that if Susan had decided to settle down and get married, she would have been wearing one of these dresses (but the film wouldn’t have been quite the same).

We can rely on Vera Wang to be a trailblazer when it comes to bridal collections, and the fall 2016 collection is far from mainstream. This is a true haute couture collection, befitting the boldest, most unconventional brides – who aren’t afraid to bare some flesh.

Medieval influences are illustrated in elaborate, detailed brocade and fierce bodices, but modernised by sheer skirts and plunging necklines in a bewitching collection by Berta Bridal for fall 2016. Think the Snow Queen meets Malificent with a generous dose of red carpet glitz… Shimmering lacework clings to Berta’s translucent gowns like snowflakes on windowpanes, making this a winter wonderland worthy line that is giving us a very festive feeling on this dark, wintery eve.

Berta Balilti, Israeli founder and sole designer of the esteemed Berta Bridal label, has been bringing her blend of glamour and sartorial styling to the bridal market for more than 17 years. Her designs for the fall 2016 line are characterised by fine details – from intricate lace to cascading beading – made luminous against the pure, vibrantly white hue that ties the collection together. We can see this line working brilliantly at a Christmas wedding, paired with a white or dove grey fur coat and dazzling, diamond jewellery. This is high fairytale fashion for brides with plenty of imagination.

Berta Bridal is stocked internationally at selected stockists, including four in the UK; The Wedding Club in London and Birmingham, Opus Atelier in Scotland, and Verona Bridal in Northern Ireland. However, she also takes her trunk shows around the world, with one coming up in London for the 2016 calendar – brides can catch Berta at The Wedding Club, London from January 22^nd to 24^th next year.

All you need is Lahav: Two breathtaking Fall 2016 bridal collections: In the last couple of weeks, we’ve been treated to so many completely beautiful fall 2016 bridal collections, and now Galia Lahav has totally spoiled us by releasing two.

Debuting at the bridal market at New York Public Library a few weeks back, Lahav wowed the press with the launch of the first ready-to-wear collection by the Israel-based designer. The collection, Gala, displays Lahav’s lavish and opulent trademark design, in perhaps a more understated tone. The collection will be available in set sizes, from Galia Lahav stockists – while still somewhat of a well kept secret in the UK, Galia’s designs are available for appointment viewing at Browns in London.

The main event of the NY Public Library launch, however, was the breathtaking fall 2016 Ivory Tower collection. To say Lahav’s designs are ‘statement pieces’ is to say the Eiffel Tower is a telephone pole. Inspired, in Galia’s own words, by gothic architecture and elements of a medieval wardrobe. Architecture is a strong theme for next fall, with lots of structural shaping going in to pieces by several key design houses, and in the Ivory Tower collection this is manifested in sweeping, endless trains, and tight, slick bodices. As well as the striking and classic optic white, the palette of this collection extends to the very on trend blush tones, which work particularly well with the translucent, lingerie element that is proving to be a really strong 2016 trend. With this exciting collection, we are seeing that bridal wear just keeps getting bolder.

This month saw the debut of the Monique Lhuillier fall collection for 2016, and the designer’s latest line is a feast for the eyes. We’ve picked out some of our favourite pieces from the new collection, and identified some themes that tie in with the exciting new styles for 2016 that we’ve been seeing so far, particularly since London Fashion Week back in September.

Strong themes have jumped out at us; there’s the key structuring trend, as seen in the Hartley, Aubrey and Peyton dresses, which feature tiers created of bold, firm forms and clean lines. There’s the feather-light texturing trend, seen in the Azalea and Elena dresses, as well as the Huntingdon dress – which also has elements of structuring. Bridal wear is getting a lot more daring this year; we’ve already been wowed by the ‘barely there’ creations from Vera Wang 2016, and many designers have been exhibiting lingerie inspired wedding gowns, such as Lhuillier’s Dulce, Getty, and Rayna dresses – the latter also displaying some beautiful texturing. There’s plenty of fusion within the collection, and certain trends marry together really nicely.

Leading naturally on from lingerie, there are also lots of 1960s and ‘70s influenced high hemlines making a comeback, as with the Mavis and Lea gowns, as well as the stunning Lana dress, a darling mini dress with a sweeping open skirt. Lastly, enduring since 2011, is the duchess wedding trend. Ever since Kate glided down the aisle at Westminster in her elegant and classic lace sleeved McQueen gown, every year we get more variations on the theme from all the top designers; but they are completely gorgeous. From Monique Lhuillier we have the Waverley, Winslet and beautiful blush Langham gowns. Lhuillier brings us ‘duchess with swagger’ here; there are the demure long, lace sleeves, but plunging necklines, or champagne pink rather than virginal white.
