Romance in Dubai’s Desert

Romance in Dubai’s Desert  – Is Dubai a honeymoon destination?

You may not think so, but behind the bright lights and shopping malls, I found a romantic oasis deep in the dunes. Al Maha is an exclusive desert resort and spa hidden in the sandy wilderness and just a 6-hour flight from Europe. The individual chalets are tented and recreate a Bedouin encampment, all arranged for maximum privacy. Service and attention to detail are top of the list at the resort and we find ourselves being welcomed by our very own guest relations coordinator and field guide.

Being situated within the Dubai Conservation Reserve, each guest receives a choice of two field activities including camel trekking, horse riding, desert safaris, amongst many others. After discussing the activities with our guide, Korbas, we decided to go for the camel ride and falconry before being whisked off in our little golf buggy to our accommodation.

Our luxurious Bedouin Suite opened on to its own private, temperature controlled infinity pool, perfect for a honeymooners to cool off from the heat of the desert. The beautiful interiors made up of cool sandstone floors, fragrant oil burners and Bedouin artefacts, made me realise why George Clooney and The Roof Gardens were just some of the A-list celebrities who often enjoy soaking up Al Maha’s serene atmosphere. Floating in our pool, we spied passing gazelles and oryx with the thoughtfully provided binoculars.

In addition, budding artists are encouraged to capture the natural beauty of the desert vista with an easel and crayons. The views are uninterrupted and the feeling here is of total seclusion from the rest of the world, perfect for an amorous escape. As well as a luxurious hideaway, Al Maha is a working conservation-based resort that supports, manages and drives conservation through the development and the preservation of species found within the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve (DDCR).

Al Maha is not open to-day visitors – only stay-in guests are allowed within the resort.

Luxury Honeymoon In Dubai

The timeless expanse of the Arabian desert is breathtaking in itself and after our sunset camel ride with champagne in the dunes, I couldn’t help feeling like I had stepped onto the romantic, colonial set of the English Patient.

If the desert romance and champagne don’t leave you staring longingly into your lover’s eyes, then let food be the language of love with an exquisite five-course menu that can be taken privately on your own deck or within the resort’s Al Fresco Al Diwaan restaurant.

As we sip our wine a cool breeze picks up, the star’s light the sky and the desert’s tranquillity settles over us for the night. Perfectly in tune with nature and the rhythms of the desert, Al Maha will leave you in harmony with your partner, relaxed, spoilt but most of all, romanced. We flew to Dubai with British Airways and hired a car to drive the 65km to Al Maha.

A Bedouin Suite with King Size Bed starts from around £950 per night in April and includes breakfast, lunch and dinner plus two activities. For more information and to book online visit www.emirateshotelsresorts.com or call +971 4 8329900. To make a reservation contact +971 4 3034222
