Her children and grandchildren, including Prince William and Harry, were notified about her health concerns earlier today and have all managed to be by the Queen’s side during her final moments.

The Queen came to the throne in 1952 and reigned for 70 years on the throne, making her the UK’s longest-serving monarch. With her death, her eldest son Charles, the former Prince of Wales, will lead the country as the new King and head of state for 14 Commonwealth realms.

In a statement, Buckingham Palace said: “The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon. “The King and the Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.”

All the Queen’s children traveled to Balmoral, near Aberdeen, after doctors placed the Queen under medical supervision.

Queen Elizabeth II’s tenure as head of state spanned some of the most significant moments in history from the post-war austerity, the transition from empire to Commonwealth, the end of the Cold War, and the UK’s entry into and withdrawal from the European Union.

She lead as Queen passing through 15 prime ministers starting with Winston Churchill and appointed Liz Truss as the current Prime Minister just 2 days before her passing. She held weekly audiences with her prime minister throughout her reign and was a prominent figure when it came to the UK’s international affairs.

Crowds filled out the street outside Buckingham Palace in London, awaiting updates on the Queen’s condition began crying as they heard of her death. The Union flag on top of the palace was lowered to half-mast at 18:30 BST.

The Queen was born Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor, in Mayfair, London, on 21 April 1926 and very few could have imagined everything she would have gone through as Queen. She would become monarch but in December 1936 her uncle, Edward VIII, abdicated from the throne to marry the twice-divorced American, Wallis Simpson. Her father became King George VI and Lilibet, as she was known in the family, became heir to the throne.

Within three years, Britain was at war with Nazi Germany. Elizabeth and her younger sister, Princess Margaret, spent much of wartime at Windsor Castle after their parents rejected suggestions they are evacuated to Canada.

After turning 18, during the war, Elizabeth started exchanging letters with her Philip, Prince of Greece, who was serving in the Royal Navy.

Their romance blossomed and the couple married at Westminster Abbey on 20 November 1947, with the prince taking the title of Duke of Edinburgh. She would later describe him as “my strength and stay” through 74 years of marriage, before his death in 2021, aged 99.

Their first son, Charles, was born in 1948, followed by Princess Anne, in 1950, Prince Andrew, in 1960, and Prince Edward, in 1964. Between them, they gave their parents eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Elizabeth was crowned at Westminster Abbey on 2 June 1953, aged 27, in front of a then-record TV audience estimated at more than 20 million people. She has since been described as the best monarch the UK has ever had.

One of the greatest actresses in history, Audrey Hepburn, married actor Mel Ferrer in Switzerland in 1954 and left everyone amazed with her wedding dress. Ms Hepburn wore a typically full-skirt ‘50s ballerina-length dress which was designed by Pierre Balmain. The dress looked romantic and elegant and featured a high neck, along with leg-o-mutton sleeves and a cinched waist and a lovely bow at the back. The actress chose to ditch the veil and wore roses in her hair instead.

6. Marilyn Monroe

Everyone’s sweetheart, Marilyn Monroe, has a series of draw-dropping timeless fashion moments that everyone is still talking about. One of those moments was the wedding dress that she wore for her wedding with Arthur Miller. Monroe chose to wear a mid-length gown which oozed glamour and sophistication. The Indian Actress went all out when it came to designing her wedding dress and has set the level high for any future ionic dresses. Priyanka married her now-husband, Nick Jonas, in Mumbai back in 2018. The wedding ceremonies lasted over a week-long and it was surely a wedding that no one will forget especially the bride’s gown. Although Priyanka wore multiple outfits during the week-long celebrations, the most noticeable dress is of course the Ralf Lauren custom gown that she wore during her Christian Ceremony. The gown featured a multitude of pearls, crystal beading and Swarovski crystal embellishment. The extraordinary dress had a magnificent tuille veil measuring an outstanding 75ft. LB. Altogether it took 1,826 hours of work to put together the lovely custom gown and the draw-dropping veil.

4. Grace Kelly

Grace Kelly went from being a Hollywood actress to marrying a prince! In 1956 the Rear Window actress married the love of her life, the Prince of Monaco, Rainer III at the Saint Nicholas Cathedral. Her dress served as one of the most iconic wedding dresses of all time and Is still a major inspiration for future brides to this day. Grace wore a silk taffeta and antique Brussels lace gown made by the MGM costume designer, Helen Rose. For the dress, Helen used 25 yards of silk taffeta, 100 yards of silk net and hundreds of pearls and it took the designer and three dozen seamstresses six weeks to finalize the dress, and may we say it looked amazing.

3. Princess Diana

The worlds Princess married Prince Charles at St Paul’s Cathedral in 1981 in front of the world. Diana wore a stunning ivory silk taffeta dress which was designed by David and Elizabeth Emanuel. The gown was decorated with lace, sequins, hand embroidery and 10,000 pears, along with a 25-foot train that is the longest train in the history of royal weddings.

2. Kate Middleton, The Duchess of Cambridge

Kate married the love of her life, Prince William, at Westminister Abby on 29^th April 2011 in front of the entire world. Middleton wowed everyone in her custom-made Alexader McQueen gown which was an ivory and white satin gazar dress with long sleeves and a bodice covered in couture lace. The dress was worn with a veil made from layers of ivory tulle and the Cartier Halo Tiara, which was borrowed from Queen Elizabeth.

Queen Elizabeth II was 21 years old when he married Prince Philip at Westminister Abby in 1947. The Queen famously decided to save up ration cards to purchase the material needed for her wedding dress. Her gown was made out of ivory duchess satin which was decorated with 10,000 white pearls that were imported especially for the Queen, silver threads and tulle embroidery. Her bridal look also included a 15-foot patterned full-court train attached to the shoulders and a silk tulle veil. The look was completed with Queen Mary’s Fringe Tiara which was lent to her by her mother.

Interestingly, Summer has not always been a popular time to marry. In the 18th century the colder months were the most fashionable. I wish I had an invite to the thanksgiving service, which was held at London’s Westminster Abbey. • 1. They sealed their friendship over ginger biscuits and lemonade, and then Philip demonstrated his athleticism by jumping over the nets of the college tennis courts.
• 2. Although a prince of Greece, Philip comes from Danish, Russian, German and English stock. Before marrying, he had to be naturalised as British, which took three years.
• 3. In 1956, the Queen and the Duke introduced lunches at Buckingham Palace to meet distinguished people from all walks of life. There are usually six to eight guests.
• 4. Together, the two have sent nearly 40,000 Christmas cards during her 55-year reign.
• 5. Their first London residence was Clarence House, where Charles and Camilla now live.
• 6. The royal couple have been separated once on an overseas tour. In 1974, the Queen had to return home from Australia when an election was called. Philip was rejoined by his wife in Indonesia.
