In a statement, Buckingham Palace said: “The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon. “The King and the Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.”

All the Queen’s children traveled to Balmoral, near Aberdeen, after doctors placed the Queen under medical supervision.

Queen Elizabeth II’s tenure as head of state spanned some of the most significant moments in history from the post-war austerity, the transition from empire to Commonwealth, the end of the Cold War, and the UK’s entry into and withdrawal from the European Union.

She lead as Queen passing through 15 prime ministers starting with Winston Churchill and appointed Liz Truss as the current Prime Minister just 2 days before her passing. She held weekly audiences with her prime minister throughout her reign and was a prominent figure when it came to the UK’s international affairs.

Crowds filled out the street outside Buckingham Palace in London, awaiting updates on the Queen’s condition began crying as they heard of her death. The Union flag on top of the palace was lowered to half-mast at 18:30 BST.

The Queen was born Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor, in Mayfair, London, on 21 April 1926 and very few could have imagined everything she would have gone through as Queen. She would become monarch but in December 1936 her uncle, Edward VIII, abdicated from the throne to marry the twice-divorced American, Wallis Simpson. Her father became King George VI and Lilibet, as she was known in the family, became heir to the throne.

Within three years, Britain was at war with Nazi Germany. Elizabeth and her younger sister, Princess Margaret, spent much of wartime at Windsor Castle after their parents rejected suggestions they are evacuated to Canada.

After turning 18, during the war, Elizabeth started exchanging letters with her Philip, Prince of Greece, who was serving in the Royal Navy.

Their romance blossomed and the couple married at Westminster Abbey on 20 November 1947, with the prince taking the title of Duke of Edinburgh. She would later describe him as “my strength and stay” through 74 years of marriage, before his death in 2021, aged 99.

Their first son, Charles, was born in 1948, followed by Princess Anne, in 1950, Prince Andrew, in 1960, and Prince Edward, in 1964. Between them, they gave their parents eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Elizabeth was crowned at Westminster Abbey on 2 June 1953, aged 27, in front of a then-record TV audience estimated at more than 20 million people. She has since been described as the best monarch the UK has ever had.

Our thoughts are with the Royal family during these difficult times. Rest in Peace Queen Elizabeth. God save King Charles III.

Iconic Celebrity Wedding Gowns: Wedding dresses aren’t simply gowns worn for an evening or a little girl’s dream, they are symbols that stigmatise and reflect on each era.

From Queen Elizabeth’s post-war wedding gown or Yoko Ono’sixties attire to Priyanka Chopra’s stunning Mandarin-collared gown, each gown served as a symbol of love, culture and history. If you are looking for a wedding dress for your big day that will be inspired by some of the most iconic leading ladies in fashion history, we are here for you!

We have researched and chosen some of the most historical and iconic wedding gowns for inspiration and a hot look back at fashion’s biggest moments.

10. Bianca Jagger

Instagram/@thefashioncalendar

We are starting the list with the iconic Bianca Jagger, who decided to go against the stereotypical white wedding dress and opted for a more fashionable and rebellious attire. The former Mrs Jagger wore a white skirt with a buttoned-up suit by Yves Saint Laurent, the designer had made a shirt for Bianca but it ended up not fitting as she was 4 months pregnant on her wedding day with the Rolling Stones Legend, Mick Jagger.

9. Elizabeth tailor

Iconic Celebrity Wedding Gowns.

Although Elizabeth Tailor got married eight times (twice with Richard Burton), Elizabeth was not a huge fan of weddings. For her first wedding with Richard Burton in 1967, the legendary actress chose to go against the traditional white wedding gown and wore a yellow chiffon babydoll dress with sheer long sleeves. She added lilies of the valley into her hair for a bridal look.

8. Serena Williams

Instagram/@bridebookhq

The Tennis Legend married her husband, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian in a fairytale-themed wedding in New Orleans back in 2017. Serena stunned everyone as she walked down the aisle in a caped Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen gown, along with millions of dollars worth of diamonds that complimented her entire outfit.

7. Audrey Hepburn

Instagram/@susanalirola

One of the greatest actresses in history, Audrey Hepburn, married actor Mel Ferrer in Switzerland in 1954 and left everyone amazed with her wedding dress. Ms Hepburn wore a typically full-skirt ‘50s ballerina-length dress which was designed by Pierre Balmain. The dress looked romantic and elegant and featured a high neck, along with leg-o-mutton sleeves and a cinched waist and a lovely bow at the back. The actress chose to ditch the veil and wore roses in her hair instead.

6. Marilyn Monroe

Instagram/@scenic90s

Everyone’s sweetheart, Marilyn Monroe, has a series of draw-dropping timeless fashion moments that everyone is still talking about. One of those moments was the wedding dress that she wore for her wedding with Arthur Miller. Monroe chose to wear a mid-length gown which oozed glamour and sophistication. The dress hugged her hourglass figure beautifully and featured sheer, gathered sleeves and a low scooped neck. She also wore wrist-length gloves that complimented the outfit.

5. Priyanka Chopra

Instagram/@priyankachopra

Priyanka married her now-husband, Nick Jonas, in Mumbai back in 2018. The wedding ceremonies lasted over a week-long and it was surely a wedding that no one will forget especially the bride’s gown. Although Priyanka wore multiple outfits during the week-long celebrations, the most noticeable dress is of course the Ralf Lauren custom gown that she wore during her Christian Ceremony. The gown featured a multitude of pearls, crystal beading and Swarovski crystal embellishment. The extraordinary dress had a magnificent tuille veil measuring an outstanding 75ft. LB. Altogether it took 1,826 hours of work to put together the lovely custom gown and the draw-dropping veil.

4. Grace Kelly

Grace Kelly went from being a Hollywood actress to marrying a prince! In 1956 the Rear Window actress married the love of her life, the Prince of Monaco, Rainer III at the Saint Nicholas Cathedral. Her dress served as one of the most iconic wedding dresses of all time and Is still a major inspiration for future brides to this day. Grace wore a silk taffeta and antique Brussels lace gown made by the MGM costume designer, Helen Rose. For the dress, Helen used 25 yards of silk taffeta, 100 yards of silk net and hundreds of pearls and it took the designer and three dozen seamstresses six weeks to finalize the dress, and may we say it looked amazing.

3. Princess Diana

Kate married the love of her life, Prince William, at Westminister Abby on 29th April 2011 in front of the entire world. Middleton wowed everyone in her custom-made Alexader McQueen gown which was an ivory and white satin gazar dress with long sleeves and a bodice covered in couture lace. The dress was worn with a veil made from layers of ivory tulle and the Cartier Halo Tiara, which was borrowed from Queen Elizabeth.

1. Queen Elizabeth II

Queen Elizabeth II was 21 years old when he married Prince Philip at Westminister Abby in 1947. The Queen famously decided to save up ration cards to purchase the material needed for her wedding dress. Her gown was made out of ivory duchess satin which was decorated with 10,000 white pearls that were imported especially for the Queen, silver threads and tulle embroidery. Her bridal look also included a 15-foot patterned full-court train attached to the shoulders and a silk tulle veil. The look was completed with Queen Mary’s Fringe Tiara which was lent to her by her mother.

Each and every wedding dress has a story to tell and a moment to shine. It is a part of your present and history that will be passed on to each generation that passes as a symbol of love from a moment that will remain in your hearts forever.

In the 18th century the colder months were the most fashionable. The famously romantic marriage of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert began with a wintery February wedding in 1840. This tradition has been followed by many royals including Queen Elizabeth II who wed Prince Philip in November 1947. Recent research by wedding website Confetti shows a return to this trend with a 200% rise in winter weddings since 2007. Celebrities such as Sophie Dahl and Jamie Cullum have taken note and opted to exchange vows in January earlier this year.

Not only is the charming Tudor Manor House as picturesque as a Christmas card but it is also no stranger to catering to royals. Queen Elizabeth I stayed in the sumptuous rooms for the last time in 1575 and the House is steeped in history giving your snow-sparkled ceremony an elegantly regal air.

Surrounded by formal gardens and 2,000 acres of parkland (landscaped by Capability Brown in the 1760s), Fawsley Hall provides an enchanting festive atmosphere. With toasty and inviting interiors, exquisite private dining rooms, superb award-winning cuisine, elegant bedrooms and a stunning honeymoon suite you will feel as though you have been transported into a glorious winter palace.

The Main House is licensed for wedding ceremonies and civil partnerships which take place in either the Salvin Suite overlooking the Tudor knot garden or the Great Hall (where Queen Elizabeth was entertained). Arrangements can also be made to use the parish church which is a short walk away providing stunning views across the estate and lake.

The exclusive use of the chic Georgian Knightley Court which sits adjacent to the House is available on its own or in addition to the Main House. Knightley Court can accommodate up to 120 guests and houses a private Stable Bar, eight bedrooms, outdoor seating and a private cinema which are available to guests throughout the day.

When choosing Fawsley Hall you receive more than a just a magical setting. A complimentary wedding planning service is offered to act as your fairy godmother by co-ordinating the day, providing support and inspiration and ensuring that all the important details are dealt with professionally. You and your guests will feel pampered and privileged as you indulge in some pre or post-wedding treatments including hair and make-up at the award-winning Grayshott Studio Spa.

I wish I had an invite to the thanksgiving service, which was held at London’s Westminster Abbey. Two thousand guests were invited, including British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, which is more significant than an actual wedding. Well, I guess it is the Queen, after all. The Queen’s dress was made of satin woven from silk from Chinese silkworms and decorated with 10,000 pearls! There was a bit of gossip at the Queen’s wedding, well her tiara broke on her big day when someone placed it on her and not to mention one of the bouquets was left behind so someone had to run back and get it. Glad to hear it happens to everyone! I came across this from the royal expert James Whitaker and wanted to share it with you all.

1. They sealed their friendship over ginger biscuits and lemonade, and then Philip demonstrated his athleticism by jumping over the nets of the college tennis courts.

2. Although a prince of Greece, Philip comes from Danish, Russian, German and English stock. Before marrying, he had to be naturalised as British, which took three years.

3. In 1956, the Queen and the Duke introduced lunches at Buckingham Palace to meet distinguished people from all walks of life. There are usually six to eight guests.

4. Together, the two have sent nearly 40,000 Christmas cards during her 55-year reign.

5. Their first London residence was Clarence House, where Charles and Camilla now live.

6. The royal couple have been separated once on an overseas tour. In 1974, the Queen had to return home from Australia when an election was called. Philip was rejoined by his wife in Indonesia.

7. The Prince’s favourite tipple is lager.

8. Every week, without fail, Prince Philip gets flowers for the Queen.

9. The Queen’s former private secretary, Lord Charteris (1972-77), said of Philip: “He is the only man in the world who treats the Queen as a human being.”

10. The teenage Princess Elizabeth kept a photo of Philip on her mantelpiece. When her nanny Marion Crawford asked if it was wise as people would gossip, Elizabeth replaced it with one of the princes with a naval beard and said: “I defy anyone to recognise who that is!”

11. During their engagement, they played a parlour game called Murder, often ending up in dark spots when the lights went out.

12. Not as religious as his wife, Philip conspicuously read a book during Prince Charles’s confirmation. The Archbishop of Canterbury at the time, Michael Ramsay, said: “Bloody rude, that’s what I call it.”

13. Philps pet name for his wife is “sausage”.

14. The Queen Mother used to refer to Philip as The Hun as he is a member of the German house of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glucksburg.

15. When the pair honeymooned at Broadlands, the Mountbatten’s country home near Romsey, Hants, the bride had 15 suitcases, the groom two.

16. Under pressure from his wife-to-be, Philip quit smoking on the morning of his wedding.

17. Princess Elizabeth and Lieut Philip Mountbatten had an inauspicious start to married life. None of his sisters were allowed to attend the wedding as they had all married high-ranking German officers, and the war was “too fresh in people’s minds”.

18. When Philip’s cousin Patricia Mountbatten ten remarked on Elizabeth’s flawless complexion, the Prince joked: “Yes, and she’s like that all over.”

19. George VI’s private secretary, Sir Alan Lascelles, spoke for many when he described Philip as “rough, uneducated and would probably not be faithful”.

20. The princess first met Philip when she was 13 during a tour of the Royal Naval College in Dartmouth, Devon.

21. Philip was born a prince of Greece and became a prince of the United Kingdom in 1957

22. In traditional upper-class fashion, Elizabeth and Philip had connecting bedrooms. When he walked into Philip’s bedroom one morning, royal valet James MacDonald was embarrassed to find Elizabeth in a silk nightgown and Philip naked. “Prince Philip didn’t care at all,” said MacDonald. “Pyjamas? Never wear the things,” Philip once said.

23. When they first moved into Buckingham Palace, Philip had a direct phone line installed so that he could talk to his wife without going through the switchboard.

24. War rationing was in force when they married, and Elizabeth had to save her clothes coupons for her Norman Hartnell wedding dress. It cost £1,200 and used up 300 coupons.

25. Once, when the Queen repeatedly sucked in her breath at his fast driving, Philip told her: “If you do that once more, I shall put you out of the car.”

26. To the delight of Philip, the Queen refuses to wear a riding hat (she wears a scarf) and will not belt up in the car.

27. The Queen and Prince Philip dislike duvets and prefer sheets and blankets.

28. The wedding reception was a low-key affair for 150 at Buckingham Palace. The King decreed there should be no long speeches as he hated making and listening to them.
