London Fashion Week Bridal Inspiration

If you’re not into fashion, or rugby, I hope you had a rock to hide under at the weekend because, while the action got under way in Twickenham, on the other side of London the couture event of the season was in full swing. London fashion Week for Spring Summer 2016, which kicked off on Friday, runs until Tuesday, and we’ve been seeing some really strong trends coming through already. Below, we’ve selected some highlights of London Fashion Week so far, and – naturally – related what we’re seeing on the catwalks to SS16 bridal trends.

Key Trend: The 1970s

We’ve known for a while that the 1970s are back, but now they are really, really back. It’s not just the bohemian look gracing the stage – though it is, particularly at Molly Goddard and DAKs – we’re also seeing the sorts of sporty, preppy 70s looks, a la Samantha Stevens in 1970s Bewitched, from Orla Kierly and John Smedley. Traversing the two are Mother of Pearl and Bora Aksu, with Nashville-inspired, athletic collections complete with florals and flourishes that Charlie’s Angels would be proud of. Throughout numerous other collections displayed this week, the general nod to the ‘70s is present, in blousing, high necklines, detailed florals, bell sleeves, and midi length skirts.

Colours, Fabrics & Motifs:

Black and white, both together and apart, have dominated the catwalks this week. Bright blocks of bold colour have been prevalent also, and the bohemian trend has extended to gentle pastel tones across several collections, especially blush pink. Pretty florals are peppered liberally, and risqué sheer fabrics create beautiful, ‘barely there’ looks, perfect for spring.

Bridal Collections 2016 So Far:

Monochrome, sheer creations from Vera Wang, beautiful Boho 1970s influences at Christos Costarellos, and blush tones from Suzanne Neville and J Mendel:
