Underwater Weddings at Conrad Maldives Rangali Island

Cold feet may be an issue at the wedding ceremony, but wet feet?

Not at Conrad Maldives Rangali Island which offers weddings in its underwater restaurant, Ithaa, for the bride and groom looking for somewhere a little more unusual to tie the knot.

Priced at US$2,850 the ceremony takes place in the all-glass restaurant surrounded by a vibrant coral reef where colourful fish act as witnesses to the event.

One of three wedding packages available at the luxury resort, the underwater ceremony is scheduled in the afternoon when the turquoise waters around the restaurant seem to glow in the glittering sun.

The ceremony begins when the bride is carried to the restaurant in a traditional hammock in a procession.  If the couple choose to make a grand entrance, the resort can arrange traditional Maldivian drummers to accompany the bride.

The ceremony, conducted in English, can be tailored to include speeches or personalised vows by the couple and includes Maldivian touches such as a garland of flowers to unite the couple as well as the international wedding traditions of cake cutting and a celebratory glass of champagne.  After taking their vows, couples board a traditional wooden sailing boat and cruise into the sunset for a romantic journey as husband and wife.

Those preferring to say ‘I do’ on land can choose from two beachfront ceremonies: the Chapel of Love Ceremony, which is set in an elegant thatched roof pavilion on the edge of the lagoon ablaze with banners, and the White Sands Wedding, which takes place barefoot on the silky soft white sands overlooking the ocean, complete with an ‘aisle’ of palm leaves.

All three wedding packages include a wedding cake, champagne, pampering spa treatments for bride and groom, professional photos and videos, a sunset cruise, gourmet wedding dinner under the stars and a flower bedecked ‘wedding bed’ when the happy couple return to their villa.
