L’Occitane sources its Shea Butter fromBurkina Faso, where a women’s co-operative numbering 13,000 women, harvest and process the nuts of the Shea tree, to extract the precious butter.
The women’s co-operative was established by L’Occitane 15 years ago to ensure fair prices and regular income in this poor community. This fair trade policy has led to an increased standard of living and new skills and opportunities for many of the women.
