I had the pleasure of finding out about one of my favourite things in the world….. chocolate. Not just any old chocolate, but totally exquisite world-renowned chocolate from La Maison du Chocolat.
I met with Alex Yezril who is the UK Managing Director of La Maison du Chocolat, he is based at the London branch on Piccadilly, and has been working with the company in London and New York since 1998.
5 Star Weddings: Can you tell us a bit about how La Maison du Chocolat was created?
Alex Yezril: It was founded in Paris in 1977 by Robert Linxe on the prestigious Faubourg Saint-Honoré in Paris, where he found a boutique with a wine cellar, which provided ideal conditions to preserve chocolate. For more than 35 years now, the ganache of La Maison du Chocolat has been emblematic of luxury chocolate à la française.
5 Star Weddings: Can you tell us about your latest wedding favours and the inspiration behind them?
Alex Yezril: Elegant white and red boxes, much like engagement ring boxes, filled with vanilla infused ganache.
5 Star Weddings: What is the inspiration behind the chocolate flavours and designs?
Alex Yezril: It can be anything; the world is our inspiration. La Maison is constantly looking for new sensations to infuse into our chocolates, but only those that achieve a perfect balance of flavours and texture.
5 Star Weddings: Do you have any top tips when choosing chocolate wedding favours?
Alex Yezril: For summer weddings, ganache lightly infused with fruits is the balance between bitterness acidity and floral aroma that goes so well in summer; we have ones passion fruit and raspberry, which are popular. For winter weddings we’d suggest warmer flavours like vanilla, ginger, coffee or fennel. We can also do truffles infused with cognac or ganaches with Grand Marnier.
5 Star Weddings: What would you suggest for the ideal chocolate gift for the mother of the bride and groom?
Alex Yezril: The ‘Boite Maison’. An elegant collection and our signature box, with one layer of ganache and pralines, tied with silk ribbon – sure to please.
5 Star Weddings: What has been the most special chocolate gift you have created?
Alex Yezril: Each creation of La Maison du Chocolat is unique and beautiful in its own way. We were especially proud of creating the world’s most expensive Easter egg, which was encrusted with diamonds.
