Hours before I arrived in the lobby of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.fairmont.com\/savoy-london\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>The Savoy<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0wearing my dressing gown (and receiving a few strange looks, I can tell you),<\/span> I decided to get well and truly primped and pampered in luxury.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An exclusive invitation to The Savoy is reason enough to indulge a little, so I took the opportunity to do something I\u2019ve meant to do for ages\u2014get my hair and makeup done professionally and have some photos taken.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><iframe class=\"zeen-lazy-load-base zeen-lazy-load\" src=\"about:blank\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/120887498\" width=\"801\" height=\"493\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><noscript><iframe src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/120887498\" width=\"801\" height=\"493\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/noscript><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I\u2019ve met <a href=\"http:\/\/vanclarke.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Michael Van Clarke<\/strong> <\/a>partner <strong>Gustav Fouche<\/strong> at several wedding events and had been dying to visit his Marylebone headquarters for a new \u201cdo\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Upon entering the spacious salon, I was presented with a food and drink menu and led to a massage chair to begin my pampering experience. Michael Van Clarke&#8217;s speciality is diamond dry cutting, so my hair was washed (with the obligatory head massage, of course) and dried before cutting so the style could be tailored to my tresses&#8217; natural movement and shape. Unlike most salons, Michael Van Clarke provides a very calm and discreet space to relax while you undergo your makeover.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I felt like I was in a private room with my hair done<span style=\"box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;\">\u00a0without being positioned right next to another person. I loved what Gustav did with my hair and thoroughly enjoyed the most intensive \u201cgetting ready for bed\u201d routine ever! I stayed in the salon to have my makeup done beautifully by celebrity makeup artist\u00a0<strong>Karen Beadle<\/strong>, and by 6 p.m., I<\/span> was feeling glamorous and gorgeous and ready to head to bed\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A quick dash through the rain and I reached <strong>The Savoy<\/strong>, where I was escorted in my cocktail dress and black robe to a fantasy dressing room. The fabulous Design in Scent provided hot scented flannels, a godsend after rushing on the tube to arrive on time, and even some deliciously flavoured mouth sprays (I opted for chocolate) to help me feel fresh before heading to the main event. My day so far has been luxuriously enjoyable. Still, it was about to get wonderfully, magically bizarre as I finally walked into The Savoy\u2019s splendid interpretation of the land of nod\u2026\u00a0\u00a0 Amid low and dreamy blue lighting, enormous plush beds were dotted around, housing restless sleepers in silk pyjamas. It was John who I asked to do a few headshots of me, following my hair and make-up treat, and I can see why so many brides and grooms are opting for a pre-wedding shoot these days; it is a lovely feeling to get dressed up, pampered and has some photos of you feeling and looking your best for posterity. But back to the night itself, and it wasn\u2019t long before the first of many surprises appeared: the white rabbit and mad hatter (perhaps scouting out locations for Alice\u2019s upcoming 150th birthday) made their entrance to the party!<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><a href=\"http:\/\/5starweddingdirectory.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Civilised-Mess2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/5starweddingdirectory.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Civilised-Mess2.jpg\" alt=\"Civilised Mess\" class=\"wp-image-69968\" style=\"width:730px;height:auto\" title=\"Come To Bed At The Savoy\"\/><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/5starweddingdirectory.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Civilised-Mess2.jpg\" alt=\"Civilised Mess\" class=\"wp-image-69968\" style=\"width:730px;height:auto\" title=\"Come To Bed At The Savoy\"\/><\/noscript><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Provided by the brilliant theatrical company <a href=\"http:\/\/civilisedmess.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Civilised Mess<\/strong> <\/a>(who were also responsible for the sleeping characters on some of the beds) the wonderland residents got the ball rolling with the evening\u2019s unbelievable entertainment. Soon behind them were ballerinas in Tutus, up-lit by neon fairy lights, who danced a modern rendition of Swan Lake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Contortionists in animal costumes lounged in unfathomable positions on the beds, and later \u2013 my favourite \u2013 a sort of surrealist Marie Antoinette figure in an enormous wig and even more vast skirt joined us to sing an aria. Imagine my surprise when her voluminous costume suddenly opened up to reveal a puppeteer underneath! London is home to some of the most innovative and talented planners and suppliers\u2014from\u00a0The Events Mill,\u00a0which designed the theme, to\u00a0Tuck Box\u00a0Cakes,\u00a0which provided the amazing revolving cake.
