Launched in 2004, Vivien Sheriff Millinery is a firmly established company operating from a design workshop in a rural location outside Downton, and what was a small business born and bred in this Wiltshire village is now represented in Selfridge's, Oxford Street; Peter Jones and the John Lewis Partnership; as well as over 300 independent retailers throughout the UK and abroad.
Walking into the workshop is like entering Aladdin's cave: a shimmering myriad of coloured silks, feathers, crystals, ribbons, and hats, headpieces, and veils on stands, on shelves, in boxes all beautiful, and all original creations inspired by the fabulous Wiltshire location. And from this workshop the hats and headpieces leave to be worn at weddings, at the races, at special occasions, anywhere where a woman wants to stand out and look her best. And now Vivien Sheriff has moved firmly into the bridal market creating exquisite pieces for the bride: design work that has led to Vivien Sheriff being a finalist for the last two years in the British Bridal Awards for Innovation and Best Headdress Designer.
While Vivien is the driving force she is supported by the company's highly skilled design team which has quadrupled since 2004. Vivien has brought onto the team some of the best of the UK's new, young designers who are helping to develop and grow the inimitable Vivien Sheriff style. This small, friendly, creative team love what they do, and are united by their passion for British millinery.
The 2011 Collection includes a vast range of dramatic headpieces and cocktail hat silhouettes, plus a very exciting new suite of veils. Fabulous draped tulles and vintage lace, all individually and beautifully hand-made, reliving the thrill, innocence and nostalgia of brides past, present and future. Echoes of current trends such as ruffles, feathering and corded lace, mixed with intricate silver wirework, vintage embellishments, exquisite silks and tulles create the Vivien Sheriff signature pieces that modern brides love to wear.
The Bridal Collection is perfectly complemented by Vivien Sheriff's Mother of the Bride Collection. These exciting, original but still exquisitely wearable designs have established Vivien Sheriff as a major influence in the renaissance of British millinery design.
