Set in the heart of central Oxford, the Bodleian Libraries is an historic wedding venue and provides a magnificent backdrop for any wedding.
Set in the heart of the ‘city of the dreaming spires’, the Bodleian Libraries are a historic venue steeped in romance and elegance. Surrounded by prestigious colleges and museums, the Bodleian Libraries are based in the centre of Oxford.
Upon entering the Old Bodleian, you are welcomed with the warm stone walls surrounding the Old Schools Quadrangle, with the intricate detail lit up by the beaming natural sunlight; it’s the perfect setting for your drinks reception as the sun sets, before heading inside to continue the celebrations.
The Divinity School is the grandest room in the Old Bodleian Library, and leads from the Old Schools Quad. Completed in 1488, it is a masterpiece of late gothic architecture with a magnificent stone carved ceiling that will wow every one of your guests. This room can sit up to 120 guests for your ceremony or wedding breakfast where your guests can dine in luxury with our partnering caterers Oxford Fine Dining. The space is transformed for the evening reception where up to 200 guests can dance the night away under the glittering lights highlighting the architecture, which are provided by our audio-visual and lighting partner, That Event Company.
Adjoining the Divinity School, Convocation House is a 17th-century building that was constructed as a meeting place for the University’s supreme legislative body. With a ceremony license, Convocation House lends itself perfectly to an intimate ceremony for up to 100 guests. It features a fan-vaulted ceiling, fine woodwork and fixed wooden benches providing chapel style seating for your guests, which is highlighted by the incredible atmosphere of your live music and floral displays in the space. You can also experience getting married in a popular filming location, where most recently The Favourite was shot.
At the Bodleian, we understand that every wedding is different. Throughout the planning process, our dedicated Wedding Co-ordinator will be on hand to make sure that every detail is considered, whilst providing an exceptional level of service for your special day.
Next to the Old Bodleian Library, the History of Science Museum is the oldest purpose-built museum in the world and can provide a change of scenery to the day. They can host any small drinks receptions for up to 80 guests or small dinners for up to 60 guests.
Enter through the magnificent ceremonial doors and toast a special celebration among the fascinating exhibits. This beautiful 17th-century building was the centre of Oxford science in the late 1600s and now houses an unrivalled collection of historic scientific instruments. Its galleries provide atmospheric and unique spaces for small wedding celebrations.
