Amberley Castle

About

Located less than 60 miles south west of London and only 22 miles from Brighton, Amberley Castle is the centre piece for one of the prettiest villages in the South Downs.

On the south and west sides of Amberley the River Arun runs, it is known for the atmospheric mists which hang over it in the winter months. On the east side of the village is the scarp slope of the Downs rising up to Amberley Mound and a steep climb up to the South Downs Way.

The nearby village of Arundel offers more opportunity to explore. The architecture here combines Georgian and Victorian buildings that have left a legacy of which make up this pretty little town, packed today with eclectic shops and quaint tea rooms.

Brighton is less than 45 minutes drive away, well known for its blustery sea front, vibrant culture and independent shops; this is definitely the livelier destination in comparison to nearby Worthing which offers a more genteel take on the traditional seaside town.

There is something undeniably magical about staying in a castle, especially when there is over 900 years of history to absorb, stunning four poster bedrooms add to the atmosphere and the dining experience is fit for a King or Queen! Amberley Castle has achieved the unique balance of blending a historical backdrop with the facilities of a luxury hotel and standards of service that ensure you feel royally looked after.

The castle is still completely enclosed by a high curtain wall which is flanked by a magnificent twin-tower gatehouse to the south and a kitchen block and a garderode tower with gun loops to the north. Square internal towers stand at the corners, with a small water-gate in the west wall and a Norman postern in the east wall. Every night the huge Portcullis is raised, closing out the rest of the world and creating a wonderful haven behind the castle walls.

Whether you are looking for a romantic getaway, restful break, conference venue or a special place for your wedding reception, this quintessentially English luxury hotel will not disappoint.
