A neo-Gothic chateau of the Loire Valley
Chateau Challain is a nineteenth-century neo-Gothic chateau in the Loire Valley, available for exclusive-use weddings with a lakeside gazebo, an on-site chapel and 72 acres of gardens, forest and lake.
Work on the present chateau began in 1847, when the architect Louis Visconti was commissioned to replace an earlier castle on the site. It was completed in 1854 and is known locally as the Neo-Gothic Jewel of Anjou. The design counts four towers, twelve turrets, 26 spiral staircases, 52 fireplaces and 365 windows. The estate has been restored since 2002.
Ceremonies in the gardens, the chapel or the village church
Ceremonies can be held anywhere in the chateau or its grounds. The dome gazebo overlooking the lake hosts 120 or more guests, the on-site chapel holds 20, and the Memorial Tower and woods are also used. The 18th century church of Challain-la-Potherie stands directly opposite the chateau, a few minutes on foot.
