About

Birdsall House offers a stunning luxury wedding venue with elegant spaces, beautiful gardens, and exceptional service, perfect for creating unforgettable wedding memories.

Set within the rolling Yorkshire Wolds, just twenty miles east of York, Birdsall House is one of North Yorkshire's most distinguished exclusive-use wedding venues. This historic Georgian country house has been home to the Willoughby family for nearly five centuries, and today it opens its doors to a small number of couples each year who are looking for something rare: a private estate wedding with the intimacy and warmth of a genuine family home.

Birdsall is deliberately exclusive. We host only ten weddings a year, a decision that allows us to give every couple the attention, discretion and dedication they deserve. When you choose Birdsall, the house and its gardens become yours entirely for the duration of your celebration, whether that is a two-day or a three-day wedding weekend. Your event is the only event, with no shared spaces, no other parties and no compromise.

The estate offers a wealth of ceremony settings, each with its own character. Couples can marry in the historic St Mary's Church on the edge of the parkland, exchange vows among the atmospheric 11th-century ruins on the lawn, choose an intimate blessing in the lakeside temple, or hold a civil ceremony within the elegant state rooms. For those who prefer, the whole wedding can take place in a marquee, with a reception on the front lawn or the verandah and the wedding breakfast held in the marquee itself. Inside, the magnificent Georgian ballroom provides a light-filled and elegant setting for larger receptions and seated dinners. And as the celebration moves into the evening, there are options to suit every style, from a marquee on the lawn to The Old Kitchens, our beautifully restored prohibition-style speakeasy hidden beneath the house, where dancing and late-night revelry continue in atmospheric surroundings.

Surrounded by Capability Brown-designed gardens, sweeping parkland and far-reaching views across the Vale of York, Birdsall provides a backdrop of rare natural beauty for spring, summer and seasonal weddings alike. Every wedding here is entirely bespoke. Lady Cara and our events manager, Harriet, work closely with each couple from the first enquiry through to the final toast, coordinating handpicked suppliers, curating menus, and shaping every detail around your individual vision.

The house also offers beautiful accommodation on site. The bridal suite and further en-suite guest bedrooms allow the couple and their closest family to stay throughout the celebration, waking the morning after to breakfast in the house. For larger wedding parties, we work with trusted accommodation partners nearby, such as Langton Hall, so that guests can stay close by and the celebration can extend across the whole weekend.

What sets Birdsall apart is the combination of heritage grandeur and heartfelt hospitality. This is a family home at its core, and that warmth is woven through everything we do. For discerning couples seeking a luxury private estate wedding in Yorkshire, a venue that offers true exclusivity, five hundred years of history and a genuinely personal service, Birdsall House is a place quite unlike any other.

We look forward to welcoming you.
