As you enter the ancient arched gateway of Borthwick Castle, you become part of a hidden world of luxury and majestic style steeped in 600 years of Scottish history.
Borthwick Castle is the finest keep in Scotland and has played a rich role in Scotland’s storied history. In 1567, Mary Queen of Scots famously leapt from a window in the castle disguised as a page boy in order to flee an army in hot pursuit. Oliver Cromwell and his troops were here as part of his Scottish campaign from 1650 – 1652. Cromwell threatened the castle and then turned his cannons in its direction. Borthwick’s eastern elevation still bears the dramatic scars of this intrusion.
Today Borthwick Castle is the locus of unforgettable experiences, steeped in authentic style, understated luxury and unparalleled intimacy in service, providing its treasured guests with a Scottish castle experience like no other.
