Weddings at London Fashion Week 2008

This week’s London Fashion Week saw Agnness Deyn strutting down the catwalk in House of Holland’s unique tiered tartan wedding dress.  Her accessories were a pair of tartan antlers, a tartan eyepatch all brought together with a bridal veil.

The look was certainly haute couture but if you’re not feeling so brave (and Scottish!) then here is a run down of the latest trends for 2009’s stunning brides.

london fashion weeek hot pictures

Sleek romanticism from the 1940’s is definitely a key look with designers such as Jenny Packham adorning her brides with oyster chiffon, tulle, satin, silk lace and a sprinkle of crystals. White fur stoles were a out in force and although perhaps not practical for down the aisle, a stylish (and warm!) addition for winter weddings or evening blessings.

Pre-raphaelite brides will love Alice Temperley’s reliably quintessentially English collection with ruffles everywhere! The grecian goddess is also continuing into Spring 2009 with long, flowing empire line waists ideal for tall and slender woman. Finally, the mini-skirt wedding dress! If you’ve been working on those pins then now is the time to get them on display. If mini is too daring why not opt for Oscar de la Renta’s mid length as seen earlier this year on the catwalk, its retro cuteness brings sexy brides to a whole new level!

Palzilleri 2008 CollectionThe main motif of this collection is “matching” suits, shirts and waistcoats combining different patterns ranging from a seventies-like geometrical style to a floral one.
Fresh and elegant tactile sensations come from original blends of fabrics like silk and viscose, or from more classic combination of wool and viscose to obtain a distinguishing gloss opaque variation. A constant feature are: light woolen fabric and special fabrics mixed with copper or silver threads.
Colors range from black/blue night-black/natural white to brown and gray leaden tones coupled with slightly coloured accessories: green-blue, aged gold and copper

Grooms available sizes:

Sizes range from 44 to 66, but each model can be customized thanks to our bespoke service. For a more updated consumer jackets have been sensibly shortened to gain a more fluid shape, while pants are slimmer. A trendy must: single-breasted two buttons jackets, with a peak lapel”

Sweet thoughts on your favors

Sweet thoughts on your favors.

If you decide to have favors are in bags, boxes, or pouches, be creative. Given a little time and effort you can always hand craft your presentation. Make bags or pouches from felt or ribbon, or use opulent velvets and tassels. Little boxes lined with coloured paper are charming containers for cookies or chocolates and can be made months in advance. Make sure that your gift contains a message somewhere, for example a hand written luggage label or a little card. Or putting it in an unexpected place  the inside fortune cookie, or printed on the inside of the wrapping paper.

If the favors are all arranged together make sure your guests know to take one home. Place a handwritten card among them with a few words like for you or please enjoy. Alternatively bridesmaids can hand out the favors from decorative baskets.

Here are some of my favorite favors:

Little luxury cookies are a perfect present if presented well. Or even novelty cookies into cellophane bags.

If you decide to go with the traditional almonds, why not put them into tiny boxes decorated with silk flowers, rather than tying them up in tulle.

Give each guest a bulb planted in a small terracotta pot or small aluminum tin, or even in a glass filled with pebbles.

Scented candles are unusual containers are a lovely gift. You could even make your own using shells or empty coconut halves.

A lottery ticket is becoming very popular, you can put one in an envelope with some confetti and a personal note form the bride and groom.

Plant little grasses in cacti in miniature buckets or pots.

Tiny pots of honey symbolize a sweet and fruitful marriage, why note try rather different honey that no one has had before like thyme or lavender.

You can also make or buy some gorgeous soaps and present them in little pouches tied with pretty ribbon.

As you can see, there are plenty of ideas for wedding favours, just be creative and have fun choosing what you have decided.

The basics of any wedding ceremony

The Wedding Ceremony

Though some of the traditional wedding ceremony is still being used in many weddings, there are new customs and traditions that are being invented to suit the new way people are relating and even meeting. The world has changed very much since weddings became what they are, and this means the those ceremonies have to change with the times. Though there are some who stick to the traditional wedding in every way, many are making adjustments, whether they are large or small, to fit what they think a marriage should be.

One common change to the wedding ceremony is to change the vows. When I married, our minister gave us a selection of vows from which to choose, and also told us that we were welcome to read our own if we wished. Since we both thought we would not like to read ours, even though it would be neat to write them, we decided to go with some traditional vows. We did, however, made some modifications. Our first modification to the vows was that the word ëobeyí would not be included. The thought of obeying each other was funny to each of us.

Some people are altering their wedding ceremony to include any children that may be involved. Some have their children in the wedding as flower girls, bridesmaids, ushers, or groomsmen. Others turn their wedding ceremony into a family union ceremony. This is always a brilliant idea, as the children feel that they are being joined in the new family and they feel important and loved. Though not everyone chooses to do this for various reasons, it is becoming more popular.

The basics of any wedding ceremony remain the same however. Most couples make vows and exchange rings with each other. Other than that, what a couple wants to do is up to them. Come faiths will not allow such changes, but many will. The ceremony should reflect the life of the couple, and should be something they will cherish forever. The wedding ceremony should not be built to please the guests, but rather to please the couple. However, it is always a nice touch to keep the guests comfort in mind while planning. They will love you for it. Though people are always honored to be invited to a wedding, some brides and grooms donít think about them while planning, they sometimes they end up having a very miserable time due to long length of ceremony or time between ceremony and reception.

Lipstick and Curls - your perfect wedding makeup

Almost all women enjoy looking their best. They will go out of their way to purchase new cosmetic items that promise to make them look movie star great. It does not just take expensive mascara, foundation or eye shadow to create the perfect look. A woman also needs a solid set of beauty make up tips to ensure she applies everything exactly the right way.

One of the most common mistakes that women make when it comes to their beauty regime is the color they choose for their foundation. Itís often too dark which results in a noticeable line along the jaw and the side of the face. A great beauty make up tip is to purchase a foundation during the day, and first try it on a spot on your face. Then look in a mirror both while you are in the store and then outside. This will give you a good indication of how close a match it is.

Eye shadow color is another area where women often make an error. There is a strong misconception that any shade of blue shadow is a no-no. If you have blue eyes though, a beauty make up tip that will highlight them is to apply a thin line of dark blue shadow along the lower and upper lashes. This enhances your eye color and makes them really pop. Another related beauty make up idea is to use dark blue mascara. Again, this really works best if you have blue eyes.

For brown eyes there are a couple of good choices when it comes to what to use. The colors that work best are shades of brown and pink. One beauty make up tip that applies to brown eyes is to try chocolate brown mascara. It is slightly different than black and can produce a much warmer look when matched with a tan colored shadow.

Lipstick seems to be one area that most women struggle with. With all the shades available it can be almost impossible to find one that matches your own natural skin tones. A perfect beauty make up tip when it comes to lipstick is to experiment. This doesnít mean going out and buying twenty different lipsticks and giving them a try. Instead it means going to the cosmetic counter and using the tester on your wrist. This beauty make up tip helps in that you can clearly see the color against your skin tone. Bright red lipstick is an entirely different story and best saved for women who want a very strong look.

Experimenting is one of the best ways to find what products and colors are best for you. When you find a color that you think looks great on you ask a close friend what she thinks. Although this beauty make up tip can result in her gently telling you to try something else, youíll know what works and what doesnít before you venture out in public.

DETOX Before Your Wedding - The Dos And Donts

The party season’s over and we feel bloated, tired and far from bikini-ready. Here are a few simple tips to kick-start a healthy new lifestyle

Anti-binge tactics:
It’s inevitable; after a hard day at the office or a fight with your boyfriend, the first thing you want to do is head for the fridge. If bingeing threatens to undo all your hard work, take action: identify and isolate your trigger foods; don’t keep them in the house as sooner or later you’ll eat them; then find a displacement activity to distract you when you get the desire to stuff yourself silly.

Small Steps:
If you want to improve your diet, rather than drastically change it, try cutting out one naughty craving, like mid-morning snacks. Behavioural psychologists have found that taking small steps (known as the “chipper” approach) is the only way to make fundamental changes in your life. If you set yourself realistic goals that you can work towards, you’ll get what you want. In contrast those who try and make radical changes in their life (or the “chomper” approach) are less likely to succeed, as their challenges are usually unrealistic.

Drink water:
Along with moisturisers, mascara and lippy, all models consider water to be an essential beauty product - nothing else so directly affects the look and feel of your skin. Water can also help your diet: often when we think we are hungry, we’re actually thirsty. If you drink two litres a day, you’ll know that any hunger you feel is definitely for food.

Smart shopping:
Supermarket shopping is a minefield when it comes to healthy eating, so make sure you stick to some simple rules. Always make a list of what you need and make sure you stick to it. You can help yourself to do this by avoiding aisles where junk and processed foods lurk. As a secondary form of defence, never go shopping when you’re hungry: you’re guaranteed, not only to buy more, but also to ‘treat’ yourself to unhealthy snacks.

Willpower:
Willpower isn’t really something that you have or don’t have; it’s a skill. It’s a sign that you’ve decided to make a conscious decision to do something about your life. When your brain is motivated in the right way, healthy food actually tastes great, and you’ll want to eat it. Eventually your brain will be tricked into believing that healthy food is more satisfying and it won’t be an effort to choose it over junk food.

Appreciate food:
Eat with awareness. Don’t gulp down food or eat on the run. Sit down and really take notice of what you’re eating with all your senses. This will allow you to take pleasure in eating things that are diverse and trying meals you’ve never eaten before - you might be surprised! Eating quickly also means you eat more as your stomach doesn’t have time to register that it is full.

And to really get your eating habits under control once and for all, sign up to the new Glamour Diets tool - it’s the most convenient, sensible and healthy way to lose weight!
