A sandbank for the ceremony

The only resort on Laamu Atoll in the southern Maldives, with 94 overwater and beachfront villas and weddings on a private sandbank or the beach.

A wedding described on the resort's pages was held on a private sandbank. The couple arrived by traditional sailing dhoni to the sound of music from local children, and bodu beru drummers accompanied them down the aisle.

The setting

A lagoon island

Olhuveli Island is the only resort on Laamu Atoll. Villas stand on stilts over the lagoon or among the vegetation behind the beach, with resident dolphins, rays and parrotfish in the surrounding water.
