The Fellows House
AD|PR visit
Tucked away in the heart of Cambridge and just a short stroll from the River Cam and Jesus Green, you’ll find The Fellows House. An apartment-style hotel, with rooms and suites named after influential Cambridge Fellows, it celebrates the rich history of the city in elegant comfort and stunning style.
The impressive building welcomed us under blue skies as we stepped into the marble-floored lobby and took in our surroundings. The hotel is filled with artwork and books, a tribute to the academic history of Cambridge, and an invitation to curl up in a cosy nook and lose yourself in a story. Luca checked us in with a warm welcome and showed us around.
Exploring The Fellows House
Perfect for a romantic break or hen weekend, The Fellows House has an inviting bar with lovely lighting and a clean and spacious feel, as well as a sweet café, The Sage, selling gorgeous treats and drinks. Up to our room, which was a lovely apartment-style, with a compact kitchen and all the amenities that you’d need for a city stay. Furnishings are fresh and modern, with dark wooden accents, grey tones and cool marble worktops; just a really relaxing and comfortable space.
We explored the indoor pool with calming décor, and the hotel also has a sauna and steam room as well as a gym that’s open 24 hours a day. Then it was time for a trip to the restaurant, and a chance to sample one of the hotel’s signature cocktails.
The Folio Bar & Kitchen
Named after famous writers, poets and literary creations, the cocktails are deliciously intriguing and gorgeously crafted. We sampled an apple cocktail, wrapped with a snake, called Paradise Lost – a tribute to the John Milton classic – with apple liqueur and Southern Comfort, designed by bartender Marta. Modern cocktails with lovely flavours, but in line with the theme running through the hotel, each gives a nod to tradition and a reminder of the city you’re in. There’s always a reminder, wherever you go, with prints and pictures of words displayed on the wall alongside bicycles, perfect for a literature lover or wordsmith.
Dinner in The Folio Bar & Kitchen was a treat, with a menu full of home-cooked British classics and plant-based dishes. I started with the smoked salmon and avocado which was delicious, followed by fish and risotto – a gorgeous spelt risotto with green beans and the freshest catch of the day. A lovely cappuccino roulade finished the meal perfectly.
The Fellows House is a cosy, modern retreat, ideal for a romantic city getaway or a chilled hen weekend. With academia running through its veins and luxury touches, you’ll be warmly welcomed for a relaxing stay.
