Marry on the Bali Cliffs at Glamorous Alila Villas Uluwatu
In our fourth and final post on weddings in Bali, we arrive at Alila Villas Uluwatu. Some may say this resort is the showstopper amongst them all. Designed by award-winning architects from Singapore, Alila Villas Uluwatu epitomises luxury clifftop living. As with all the Alilas, the road leading to the resort is fairly ordinary but this belies what awaits beyond and just like that, you are walking into a design wonderland of wooden cabanas, outdoor art and tranquil water lined walkways, all drawing the eye to the main feature, the Indian Ocean.
If you are not wowed on arrival at Alila Villas Uluwatu, then I’m sure you never will be. This stunningly beautiful resort is the type of place you aspire to spending your holidays and it would feature in the wildest dreams of wedding couples looking for a special place to get married. The people, the place, the view – it is all unparalleled.
The villas at Uluwatu are mini versions of the main resort, each with their own cabana and pool. Modern muted colours play backdrop to tasteful Balinese art and furnishings whilst outside pretty frangipani trees frame the contemporary poolside area. Inside, each villa is equipped with a personal tablet and it is here that you can choose your music, order room service and make any other requests.
If you did want to venture out then the resort offers a wealth of relaxing activities – I chose to indulge the spa. It is hard to ignore the spa at Uluwatu, mainly due to the wafts of hypnotic essential oil which linger in the open air walkways leading up to it. I opt for a 90 minute massage concentrating on the back – Asia is renowned for good massage and so I am expecting wondrous things from this premium spa. I am not disappointed. The combination of my therapist’s intuitive touch and strong but supple fingers leave me feeling relaxed and knot-free.
As with all Alila weddings, size is not an issue and so whether you have a small wedding party of ten or gala style party of 200, the team of organisers at Alila Villas Uluwatu will ensure your day is luxurious, stylish and smooth running throughout.
Marrying at Alila Villas Uluwatu is for couples who love both the ocean and glamour. Located in one of the world’s top surf destinations, it is the perfect base for wild days out on the sea or for those who just want to relax, it is also home to some of the islands best beaches. Adventure by day and glamour by night, when you can eat in one of the resorts two top restaurants – fine dining at Cire or Balinese inspired street food at Warung.
What has become, for me, a trademark greeting from Alila staff is also indication that I will not have to lift a finger during my stay – everything is taken care of. I am quickly asked a few of my personal preferences “Would I like nuts or homemade cookies in my room? “That will definitely be cookies please” then I’m whisked off in a golf buggy to my one bedroom pool villa.
His and her bathroom areas are prepared with the signature Alila Living toiletries, along with complimentary straw hats and beach bags. A bathroom and two showers – one of which features massage jets – confirm that this space is made for those who enjoy spending time pampering. A giant day bed sits in front of floor to ceiling glass doors which open for direct access into the pool. Couples could quite happily spend days in these villas and not want for anything more.
It’s all about the cliff-edge Sunset Cabana at Alila Uluwatu – the property’s signature wedding venue. This striking venue is highly sought after by couples from all over the world and so if you have your heart set on marrying here, you’ll need to reserve well in advance. Thankfully, Alila are in the process of building a replica Cabana next to the resort meaning that twice as many couples will have the opportunity to exchange vows in this beautiful ocean view setting.
Luxury Accommodation For You and Your Family
Planning a wedding abroad always raises the dilemma of accommodating those closest to you. A popular choice amongst many couples getting married at Uluwatu is to have the Sunset Cabana wedding followed by a private villa reception. These three bedroom pool villas are the epitome of designer indoor/outdoor living with panoramic views across the Indian Ocean.
A spectacular reception dinner can be prepared by the hotel’s French executive chef, Stephane Simond and held exclusively on the three bedroom Cliff Villa lawn. Then six guests, including the bride and groom will get to spend three nights luxuriating in one of these dramatic villas where daily yoga sessions are available to all and a 90 minute spa treatment is provided for the bride and groom following their big day.
