Castello di Solfagnano is a National Historical Monument located in Umbria, the green heart of Italy, in an ancient area with a turbulent history – evidenced by the plethora of hilltop castles and walled towns. It is perfectly nestled in a pristine nature that harmoniously respects the succession of seasons.

It was once a fortified structure dating back to 1100 and it was restructured during the sixteenth century when it reached its maximum splendor thanks to the construction of the Nobiliary Villa, which is currently an exclusive Historical Residence.

From the Middle Ages through to the Renaissance and to the present day, the striking architectural layers that distinguish the structure of Castello di Solfagnano tell a story of each one of the families who once owned this property.

Castello di Solfagnano

The sensibility of the current owners, the Colaiacovo family, has promoted a recent and meticulous restoration, that helped enhance the multi-faceted identity of the structure, redefining the Castle as an ideal place for organizing all kind of events in every season: fairy-tale weddings, exclusive stays, business meetings, international and fashion events.

The huge outdoor spaces such as the squares and the lush historical gardens represent the perfect stage to celebrate events. The Italian Garden, with its perfect geometry, is a refined ornamental element and also a complex labyrinth where you can get lost and find yourself. The majestic Cathedral of Love is a stunning historical park where the branches of the ancient oak trees wonderfully play with the light.

In the same way, the wide and lavish inner halls are an exclusive setting for all the moments of the event, from the celebration to the banquet. Social distancing is guaranteed and the versatility of the spaces allows every kind of decorative setting. The Salone delle Volte, composed of three different connecting aisles, can accommodate up to 360 people and it is embellished with permanent artistic installations: big paintings that create a warm atmosphere.
The 20 rooms, overlooking the Umbrian countryside, varying in size between 25sq to the 50 sq of the Eco Design Room, are equipped with every comfort: air conditioning, free wi-fi, slippers, amenity kit. There are friendly paths for people with disabilities and also an elevator that connects all the levels of the building.

Castello di Solfagnano

Castello di Solfagnano is situated on top of a hill and even if it is far from the village, it is easily reachable and very closed to the highway exit. Thanks to its privileged position there are no restrictions according to the duration of the events and the diffusion of the music.

One of the most important aims of the owners is to safeguard the agricultural soul of the estate. The 60 acres abound with vineyards, olive groves, and agricultural fields that offer high-quality natural products: the wines of Castello di Solfagnano, extra virgin olive oil, a range of cereals, saffron, and also honey. The agricultural farm currently makes 40.000 bottles of red and white wines a year and the team is working to create a brut sparkling wine, a sweet passito wine, and a reserva. Each wine is named after something to do with the estate: “1563” comes from a plaque on the castle, “Fontemaggio” is the name of the restored cellar, “L’illuminato” for the owner Sir Pasquale, “Calor Vita” after an engraving on the Villa fireplace, and “Col Marinello” – the hill on which the estate resides.

The perfect union between the harmony of lush nature and the magnificence of human history makes Castello di Solfagnano a place truly unique. The story of the Castle is a combination of cultural sediments and global landmark moments allowing modernity and history to coexist in perfect balance.
