Hylands Estate is a Grade II* listed neo-classical house in 574 acres of parkland on the edge of Chelmsford, with licensed ceremony rooms, an outdoor ceremony garden and a Grand Pavilion for up to 300.

Hylands House is a Grade II* listed neo-classical house in 574 acres of landscaped parkland at Writtle. It is owned and run by Chelmsford City Council, whose investment has restored the gilded coffered ceiling, red silk walls and plasterwork of its principal rooms.

The setting

Two licensed rooms and a woodland garden

The Banqueting Room, twelve metres by seven, and the lighter Drawing Room are both licensed for civil ceremonies and take 100 guests each. Outdoors, the Ceremony Garden holds a purpose-built oak structure and wooden seating in a woodland glade.

Hylands is dry hire. Couples choose a caterer from the accredited list, may supply drinks through that caterer or a bar company, and pay no corkage. The Terrace Room and the Library offer further spaces inside the house.
