How to choose a pair

Start with the shape. Angular frames such as the D-frame and the rectangle sharpen a soft or round face; round and oval frames soften a strong jaw; a cat-eye lifts the face and suits most. Then decide on the finish: metal frames in gold or nickel read as jewellery and pair with evening dress, while acetate in black or tortoiseshell is the everyday choice. Most styles come in several colourways, so it is worth looking at the whole family before settling on one.
