AD|PR Trip
With its sweeping views over London, incredible rooftop terrace and London-red pill-shaped lift running up the outside, The Standard Hotel is one of the coolest spots to stay in the city.
Anything but standard, the retro exterior gives you a taste of what’s inside, and the lobby does not disappoint. With flashes of London red around every corner, a fireplace and a stylish vibe, it’s the perfect place for creatives and tourists alike.
We were warmly welcomed and shown to our room. The Standard has 266 rooms, with eleven styles, ranging from the snug but chic ‘The Single’ to the ‘Junior Suite Terrace’, to make the most of those fabulous views over London.
Staying at The Standard Hotel
We stayed in a perfectly sized double standard, with plenty of room, huge windows, the softest silky curtains, and a massive headboard. Welcome treats included something sweet, something savoury and a facial mask to help ease us into the morning after…! I can see why many celebrities choose The Standard. There’s something charmingly quirky about it, with all its red and retro features. It’s also dog-friendly; guests can access all amenities, including their 24-hour gym. Then, take a trip to the library (once the Camden Council Library) to find the librarian’s recommendations stacked in piles, ready to dive in and enjoy.
Weddings at The Standard Hotel
This would be an excellent place for an after-party (I believe London Fashion Week is celebrated there) or a wedding. You can hire Sweeties, the cocktail bar, the rooftop terrace which wraps around the building, or Decimo, where Michelin-starred chef Peter Sanchez-Iglesias fuses Spanish and Mexican cuisine amongst indoor fire pits, carvings and cacti. With its floor-to-ceiling windows, Decimo is only accessible by the red-pill lift, giving guests an incredible view over to King’s Cross and the St Pancras Hotel as they climb to the tenth floor. Here, The Standard can host wedding ceremonies for up to 90 guests or more lavish celebrations for up to 300 guests.
I fell in love with Sweeties, with its disco ball and pink neon, floor-to-ceiling views through the windows, framed with plush velvet curtains and orange couches. There’s more than a little bit of luxe here, with a marble-topped bar and extensive cocktail menu. Isla’s terrace is also gorgeous, with its twinkling fairy lights, and both would make excellent drinks reception choices.
Eating at The Standard
There are plenty of eating spots and cosy corners to curl up in and soak in the atmosphere. We enjoyed our dinner at Isla, a light and bright restaurant serving a seasonal menu of Mediterranean fusion. Signature cocktails were a delicious start, and we then tucked into duck tortillas, a lobster lasagne to die for, and lots of sharing plates. It had such a lovely feel, and the flavours were divine.
Breakfast followed a similar pattern with delicious food and excellent service before we said our goodbyes.
The Standard is a cool, urban spot conveniently located in London. It has many options for every event, from parties to nightclub evenings and intimate weddings to extravagant rooftop receptions. It’s fun, retro and classy, with incredible views and high-quality dining. We’d strongly recommend you check it out for yourself; it’s perfect for any occasion!
