Real wedding: Hurricanes and hens

A hurricane forecast on your wedding day is not the ideal scenario, especially when you’ve dreamed of an outdoor ceremony and reception. But even though Hurricane Florence threatened to dump feet of rain on their day, Alyssa and Jordan’s wedding escaped without a single drop falling on them. A serene and beautiful vineyard wedding, the couple chose a really natural theme and relaxed colour palette.

Alyssa’s dress was embellished with sparkling crystals and featured a v at the front and back, with sweeping train and short but sweet veil. Her bridesmaids were in shades of purple, ranging from plum to blush and matching the mixed bouquets perfectly. An outdoor wedding has less formality and structure than an inside ceremony; so it’s such a gorgeous idea to match the unstructured beauty that’s found in nature by playing with dress colours, and styles, and by mixing up the florals. Jordan and his groomsmen opted for suave blue suits with contrasting ties, matching the bridesmaids and flowers.

The used plenty of natural wooden tones through their day, with a timer archway, vintage wooden doors and stained announcement boards. This was mixed with fresh greenery and soft white fabric, to add a little romance to the surroundings.

I love the vintage crockery and old style keys they used for their reception, and the pretty vintage style cake stand created the perfect centrepiece. And as a nod to the impending hurricane, the couple added some storm lanterns to the décor – a lovely little touch!

The whole event was full of fun and family – and even the resident hens got involved in the celebrations as well! A beautiful sunset shot shades of purple and orange across the sky as the newlyweds started their married life together.
