5 Star Weddings: What top tip would you offer brides when choosing a style for the big day?
Joseph Koniak: I believe the best way to choose your hair for the big day is to be real to yourself. When you are putting your hair back or up, the way that you would do it naturally, is the way that your hair should be at best designed. However, it is good to get a professional before the wedding, and make sure you have a good relationship and good bond with the hairdresser that you choose. Get some visuals, look at magazines, Google and bring them with you. Choose any accessories you would like to ware and have a complete view on what you want to look like.
5 Star Weddings: Are there any favourite styles amongst brides at the moment?
Joseph Koniak: I believe that every bride should be bespoke. However, more than not the current trend is half-up-half-down, loose and beautified natural hair designs, care free with great condition and timeless style up-dos.
5 Star Weddings: What’s your advice on how to achieve a glamorous wedding look?
Joseph Koniak: The best way to achieve a glamorous hair do is to prepare your hair, depending on its hair type to create as much volume. So a mouse could be a good idea or a volume sparay. Dry it into the hair with a round brush blow dry giving it as much volume as you possibly can, smoothing the cuticles through. Then take some heated rollers and put them into your hair. The best heated rollers on the market today are the “Pod” from Diva Styling Professional. It heats up in seconds and will have a longer lasting effect. Once the rollers have cooled down, take them out, smooth it through with a bristle brush or a Mason and Pearson Style Brush and style to suit. You will ideally create a beautiful, glamorous effect.
Joseph Koniak: Having worked with so many celebrities over the years, I believe most eyes in the UK are focused on Kate Middleton who has beautiful luscious brown hair and she wears it in a very natural but sleek and beautiful way. Her up-dos are very elegant and sophisticated with a natural edge to them.
5 Star Weddings: You’ve been in the business for a while now – what changes have you seen in hair care and styles over the last decade?
Joseph Koniak: Over the last decade has been a fantastic and interesting time. 10 years ago was very much about straight, flat hair styles, whilst now with the introduction of great treatments like the keratin treatment, hair has never been in better state when it comes to preparing for your wedding. Therefore, luscious, silky smooth hair dos are very much on trend with a more natural and tussled finish, whereas 10 years ago it would probably have been a little bit more stiff and styled. Now the beauty is truly in the imperfection of the styles, and that means just a natural, do-able, simple up-do.
5 Star Weddings: What’s the experience for a bride coming to get her hair done at with you…?
Joseph Koniak: Ideally one wants to make everyone person, particularly brides, feel – not just look – but feel beautiful. It is the responsibility of myself and any professional hair artist to give every care and attention to the detail of the wedding. And this is what is important to me and my team – that noting is overlooked, that every element is taken into consideration and you – the bride – can be the best you can be for that very special day.
5 Star Weddings: What’s the best advice you can give to brides wanting to keep their mane looking beautiful during their honeymoon?
Joseph Koniak: If you are lucky enough to go somewhere hot for your honeymoon, then you would need to take just an extra little bit more care keeping your hair out of the sun. There are several treatments that you can use, some protection sprays, but there is nothing better than just getting your hair up in a pony tail and under a hat.
5 Star Weddings: What is your ‘can’t live without’ hair product and why?
Joseph Koniak: For me the “can’t live without” hair product have to be the Joseph Koniak hair wand as it is the ultimate tool that can put your hair up and style it in place in minutes with no damage.
5 Star Weddings: What, in your opinion, makes a 5 Star Wedding?
Joseph Koniak: When one thinks of 5 Star, one would normally think “The best of the best” and that is what I would expect no less from myself or any artist involved. A 5 Star wedding needs to be planned, needs to be nurtured and delivered with perfection.
