1. Q: Can you share a bit about your journey from being more inclined towards sports to becoming an award-winning wedding cake maker and designer?  

A: It's been quite an unexpected journey, to be honest. While I wasn't particularly artsy or inclined towards design in school, my love for food was always there. From a young age, I was drawn to anything delicious, which I attribute partly to my Italian heritage. But it wasn't until later in life that I discovered my passion for cake designing.

2. Q: How do you think your Italian heritage and family's love for food influenced your passion for culinary arts?

A: Undoubtedly, my Italian heritage played a significant role. Italians have this incredible way of celebrating food—it's not just about nourishment; it's about culture, family, and joy. I grew up surrounded by homemade pasta, rich sauces, and delectable desserts made by my nan. Those experiences fueled my passion for culinary arts.

3. Q: Could you describe some memorable dishes or culinary experiences from childhood that shaped your love for food?

A: I vividly remember sitting around the dinner table at my nan's house, listening to lively debates among family members while indulging in her homemade pasta dishes and delectable pastries. One particular treat I remember fondly is the dried figs and almond cakes she brought back from weddings in her hometown in Italy.

4. Q: You mentioned your mum's talent for creating beautiful birthday cakes. How did her creativity inspire you to pursue cake design?

A: My mum is an incredibly talented artist who poured that creativity into making our birthday cakes yearly. Watching her bring those cake designs to life sparked something in me—it was like witnessing magic unfold in the kitchen. I wanted to continue that tradition and explore my creativity through cake design.

5. Q: What were some of the most challenging and extravagant birthday cakes you created for your children?

A: Oh, where do I begin? Over the years, my children's birthday cake requests have ranged from a volcano and a knight bus to a wrestling ring and even a free-standing dog with a UK flag! Each cake presented its challenges, but seeing the joy on my kids' faces made it all worth it.

6. Q: Working in front of the house at luxury wedding venues was an experience. Can you share any memorable moments or weddings that left a lasting impression on you?

A: Absolutely! Working at venues like Charlton House exposed me to high-end weddings and impeccable hospitality. The extravagance and attention to detail at these events were truly awe-inspiring. One wedding, in particular, stands out in my memory—the floral displays, the elegant guests, and the stunning wedding cakes that adorned the tables.

7. Q: What motivated you to transition from being a stay-at-home mom to starting your own business as a wedding cake maker?

A: After spending valuable time at home with my children, I felt the need for a new challenge—one that would allow me to channel my creativity and entrepreneurial spirit. During a casual conversation with a friend over a cuppa, the idea of making cakes for extra cash sparked my interest, and the rest, as they say, is history.

8. Q: Could you tell us about your first paid wedding cake order and how it set the stage for your business?

A: My first paid wedding cake order came from a lovely lady who worked at our local garage. When she mentioned getting married, I impulsively offered to make her wedding cake. That one opportunity paved the way for my business to flourish, and I'll always be grateful for that leap of faith she took in me.

9. Q: As your business grew, what key milestones or turning points propelled you towards success? 

A: Many milestones have shaped my journey as a wedding cake maker and designer over the years. Securing partnerships with exclusive wedding venues, being featured in top wedding blogs and magazines, and, most recently, winning the National Wedding Cake Designer of the Year award were pivotal moments that propelled my business forward

10. Q: Winning the National Wedding Cake Designer of the Year award in 2024 must have been incredibly rewarding. Can you share your feelings and thoughts about that achievement and its significance for your career?

A: Winning the National Wedding Cake Designer of the Year award was a dream! It was a testament to years of hard work, dedication, and passion for my craft. To be recognized on such a prestigious platform was beyond anything I could have imagined, and it's a moment I'll cherish forever. Winning this award reaffirmed my love for cake designing and opened up new opportunities and avenues for my business to thrive.
