Tradition puts the wedding band on first, closest to the hand, with the engagement ring on top of it, though plenty of women wear them the other way round, or add an eternity ring either side. These are the bands and stacking rings we would choose, from £382 to £13,500, all in stock now.
Suzanne Kalan sets baguette diamonds at angles so they catch the light from every side. The Short Stack is white gold with baguette and round diamonds, £6,601. The Stacker is a chunky yellow gold band of baguettes totalling 1.87 carats, £13,500.
For colour, the yellow gold eternity band of princess-cut pink sapphires, £2,721.

By Pariah’s set of three rings is 14-karat recycled gold, one with lab-grown diamonds and one with onyx, to wear alone or together, £4,650.
Daisy London’s pavé ring has 17 lab-grown diamonds in 14-karat gold, £599, and Yvonne Léon’s mini twisted band is 9-karat gold with rainbow enamel, £382.
Try the rings on together, because two rings on one finger fit more snugly than either alone, and size them as a pair. Look at the profile of your engagement ring: a setting that sits low will lie flush against a straight band, while a raised or wide setting may need a curved band, which a jeweller can make. Match the metals for a quiet stack, or mix yellow, white and rose gold on purpose, as Spinelli Kilcollin does in one ring.
