5 Star Weddings: What makes a Tammam design unique?
Atelier Tammam: Our focus is creating modern gowns in a traditional way. We work with tailors, embroiders, beaders and weavers to create unique fabrics and embellishments that are stylish and fashion forward, while also holding true to traditional craftsmanship and quality.
5 Star Weddings: Which designs are popular this season?
Atelier Tammam: Lace is incredibly popular at the moment. Our take on traditional lace is our bespoke lace service, we are able to make a lace using each brides personal symbols and ideas. We use a wild silk yarn on a tulle fabric and create enough to cover a whole dress, make a bolero or edge a veil or have small appliques. This makes each dress so unique and special while keeping it stylish and beautiful. We also have a selection of designs a bride can chose from and adapt as well as stock of English laces that can be used for gowns.
5 Star Weddings: How do you ensure a bride feels perfect on her wedding day?
Atelier Tammam: At Atelier Tammam we only use the finest materials that are sourced not only for their quality, aesthetic and fell but also their sustainability, and ensuring the creation of them does not harm the planet, its people or its animals. Brides can be sure that every part of their gown has helped protect the planet for future generations.
5 Star Weddings: What makes a visit to the Tammam Atelier special?
Atelier Tammam: When we opened the atelier, we wanted to ensure that it reflected our ethos of innocent decadence. All the fixtures and fittings exude luxury, while still being as eco friendly as possible. We offer a traditional couture service, with unlimited fittings and bespoke options for all designs.
5 Star Weddings: Which is your favourite Tammam gown?
Atelier Tammam: It has to be the Banana dress, it is an exquisite example of dedication from our craft workers as well as a beautiful gown. It is a simple dropped A-line shape, with an internal corset. The fabric is a peace silk taffeta which has been hand block printed in a traditional “Kalamkari” method using our unique blocks and natural dyes. The dress is then hand embroidered (It takes one person 4 months to cover the entire dress) with a sumptuous yarn made from the banana tree (hence the name).
5 Star Weddings: Whats a wedding dress no no?
Atelier Tammam: I would say make sure your dress is natural fibres – synthetic dresses look and feel nasty and will make you sweat and feel sticky. The fabric wont drape as beautifully and you wont feel as special. Peace silk is my favourite fibre for a wedding dress!
5 Star Weddings: Should a bride have a train and veil?
Atelier Tammam: I always say its the one occasion in your life where you can, but only have then if you want them. If you dont you will feel uncomfortable and self conscious, the opposite of how you should feel on your wedding day!
5 Star Weddings: How should a dress be stored?
Atelier Tammam: We recommend having the dress cleaned using an eco-dry-cleaning process (we use Connoisseur Dry Cleaners in north London) then carefully fold the dress and wrap in acid free tissue paper. Store it in a big box to make sure it isn’t squashed. Then get it down when your grandchildren get married and want a vintage gown!
5 Star Wedding: In your opinion what makes a 5 star wedding?
Atelier Tammam: Dont worry too much about the details. Get your dress sorted early, and choose the things that are most important to you, then don’t stress about the rest. In the end its the people you are with, and the person you are marrying, who make it a great wedding not the colour of the table cloths.
