Initially, Cartier purchased this diamond at a public sale in 1969 and named it “Cartier.” The next day Richard Burton purchased the diamond for Elizabeth Taylor. He renamed it the “Taylor-Burton” and gave it to her as a wedding present.
The ring became Taylor’s favourite piece of jewellery and eventually became part of her image.
