With the news breaking this morning of Elizabeth Taylor’s jewellery collection going up for auction in December we thought we would pay tribute to her most famous piece, the Krupp diamond, which was given to her by her fifth husband in their first marriage, Richard Burton.
Initially, Cartier purchased this diamond at a public sale in 1969 and named it “Cartier.” The next day Richard Burton purchased the diamond for Elizabeth Taylor. He renamed it the “Taylor-Burton” and gave it to her as a wedding present.
The ring became Taylor’s favourite piece of jewellery and eventually became part of her image.
In 1978, Taylor sold the ring at auction for £3 million but QVC has found the Taylor-Burton ring for a fraction of the cost. At only £32.50 this Diamonique by Tova 3.6 ct tw Art Deco Style Dress Ring in Sterling Silver is available at qvcuk.com now
