Creating decorative ornaments out of sugar has been described as early as the late medieval periods. By the 17^th century, techniques existed to make all kinds of detailed ornaments- including flowers. The first “modern” wedding cake featuring sugar flowers is believed to be from the marriage of Prince Leopold in 1882.
