They have produced a limited-edition pair of aviators made from 18-karat gold.
Launched in 1937, Ray-Ban’s Aviator frames were initially designed for US Air Force pilots, who wore them for maximum protection from the sun’s rays on high altitude flights. Today, the brand’s Aviator model is an iconic accessory worn by men and women alike. The glasses, touted as the ‘ultimate gift of luxury with style’, will go on sale in November slapped with a $3,800 price tag.
Ray-Ban has presented a number of variations on the original design over the years, using different materials and colors. This November the brand will launch Aviators with a solid 18-karat gold frame.
Looking identical to the traditional model, which starts from $145, only 1,200 set of the luxurious replicas have been made.
The frame and arms of Ray-Ban’s new swanky glasses are made from solid yellow gold. And the distinctive teardrop lenses are shaped out of polarized crystal. Each finished design features a number on the inside of the temple, stating its order in the limited edition series.
Ray-Ban, which was founded in Milan, Italy, has presented a number of variations on the original design over the years, using different materials and colors. The Ray-Ban Aviator Solid Gold will be available at Ray-Ban.com and top retailers worldwide next month.
