This summer has seen Cheshire-based Make Events travel back to the 1920s to design and produce a Great Gatsby themed wedding reception party at Mere Golf Resort and Spa for model Jade Elliott and Bolton Wanderers’ Footballer, Matthew Mills.
The couple, who married in the South of France in June, wanted to throw a spectacular Great Gatsby themed party for their closest friends and family on their return. They approached Holly Moore, founder and director of Make Events to hear her thoughts on how she could turn their dreams into reality in a matter of just a few weeks.
Holly and her team took on the challenge and set about sourcing the perfect performers and props to create scenes from the famous F. Scott Fitzgerald classic.
It was Jade’s dream to be greeted by a sea of the most beautiful flowers, replicating the scene when Daisy Buchanan arrives for her private meeting with Gatsby. And this was made a reality by the Make Events team worked with florists to create a stunning selection of huge flower displays in the reception of the James Braid suite at the Cheshire venue.
Make Events transformed the James Braid Suite itself into a 1920’s nightclub for the evening. Fascinated friends and family were welcomed by the sound of a four-piece jazz band and a selection of talented dancers who performed to a repertoire of 1920s hits. The room was draped in black star cloth and dressed in black and gold leather sofas. Black sequined tables were positioned around the room for guests to kick back at and enjoy the evening’s non-stop entertainment.
A range of fabulous entertainers performed throughout the night including a fire artist, a Martini glass dancer and an impressive four piece Charleston dance routine.
Newly married Jade Mills said: “Holly and her team went beyond my expectations with their attention to detail. They truly created something straight out of the Great Gatsby for our wedding party. It felt like we were living part of a scene from the film. Our guests were blown away and we loved every minute.”
Jade wore a stunning sophisticated dress with an elegant diamanté hairpin reminiscent of the Great Gatsby era. Her new husband Matthew looked very dapper, wearing a full black dinner suit. Guests joined in the 1920s theme with an array of vintage dresses and three-piece suits, accompanied with trilby hats and canes.
Holly Moore, founder and director of Make Events said: “This wedding was a dream to work on, we loved the theme and we were so excited to design and source the perfect props to ensure it met the couple’s wishes. We succeeded in creating a party that reflected their love of the classic film and wowed their guests. Who needs Robert Redford or Leonardo Dicaprio?”
