Floral wedding cakes are a traditional sight at a wedding. But these days there are so many alternative options that cover Pinterest boards and blogs across the wedding-scape! But what if you want flowers?! I think a gorgeous tiered cake with beautiful blooms is a classic – you can’t go wrong, so here’s a few of my favourite looks to inspire you.
Real
My heart just sings at the sight of a cake decorated with beautiful fragrant fresh blooms! But there’s so many ways to do it! A cascade down the tiers, bursting from between the tiers, an elegant crown on top… However you do it, it’s the perfect way to tie in your cake with your floral décor and bouquet.
Sugar
Now here’s the decision – edible flowers that look so real people think they are? Or obviously edible flowers that impress people with their intricacy and skill?
Painted
Some incredible masterpieces have been painted on cakes. A floral watercolour, textured buttercream ‘oil-style’ or more abstract line drawings are all ways of bringing a new flavour to a floral cake.
Frosted
If you want a cute, neat wedding cake design, some super sweet iced flowers can be incorporated into the pattern. Great if you’re really not into the big and flouncy vibes of a many-tiered extravaganza!
Twist on the traditional
Maybe your wedding flowers aren’t flowers, but foliage or succulents. You can still incorporate them into your cake theme. Twist ivy round the tiers, create a succulent centrepiece or slip some greenery between the tiers for a fresh look that’s in keeping with your day. Or maybe you want to incorporate other elements. Flowers combined with fruit, macarons and a drip look gorgeous. And don’t think flowers means you have to go fully traditional – add colour, personality and fun if you want!
