Hotel Du Vin Poole: Sometimes, we all need a break from the daily grind, and a mini break can work wonders for recharging those batteries. I’ve just returned from a blissful stay at The Hotel du Vin Poole, and I can’t recommend it enough to anyone needing a bit of escape.
First Impressions: The Ivy Covered Charm
Situated in the heart of Poole’s Old Town, the Hotel du Vin Poole is a Grade II listed Georgian mansion, beautifully restored and full of character. I was greeted warmly and given a quick tour of the hotel’s facilities, including the impressive entrance with its grand double staircase. This lovely boutique hotel is just off Poole Quay, perfect for those who want to be close to the historic harbour, nearby restaurants and bars.

With only 38 rooms the hotel has a true boutique feel and is an intimate experience. One of the highlights is the chandelier made from 150 crystal wine glasses that hangs in the hotel’s elegant interior and adds a touch of glamour to the classic vibe.
The Rooms: Luxurious Comfort and Chic
I stayed in the Grande Dame suite during my visit and it was a room of style and comfort. Each room in the hotel is sponsored by a winery and our suite was named after the Grande Dame. The room was quirky and classic. The suite’s pièce de résistance was the free standing bath in the corner of the room, perfect for unwinding after a long day of exploring. Luxuries included Egyptian cotton sheets, Miller Harris toiletries and a Nespresso machine.

The monsoon shower was a lovely way to start the day and the attention to detail in the room was great.
Dining at the Hotel du Vin Bistro
The hotel’s French bistro is another gem, a lively yet intimate dining space. The menu features classic European dishes made with local ingredients and from our table we could watch the chefs at work in the open plan kitchen. One of the unique features of the restaurant is the option to have wine by the glass so you can try new and interesting wines. The Laroch wine tasting room adds an extra layer of fun and allows you to go on a wine tasting journey around the world.

We had a starter of Prawn & Crayfish Cocktail, followed by a beautifully cooked Rack of Lamb with watercress and confit of tomatoes. Crème brûlée was the perfect dessert to finish the meal.
Weddings at Hotel du Vin Poole
For couples getting married the Hotel du Vin Poole is a unique and charming venue. With three event rooms the hotel can host both wedding ceremonies and intimate receptions for up to 40 guests. The heart of the hotel, the classically styled bistro, is perfect for larger weddings up to 90 guests. Just outside is a lovely courtyard garden for outdoor celebrations and photos.
For full exclusivity the hotel can be booked for private use and offers a blank canvas for the couple to theme their wedding. Whether you want an intimate ceremony or a big reception the hotel’s spaces and staff will make your day as special as you’ve always dreamed.
Conclusion
I loved my stay at The Hotel du Vin Poole. From the welcome to the room to the food and service everything was great. I’ll be back soon.
