Our top trends from a fabulous fairytale week
As always, New York Bridal Fashion Week had a jam-packed schedule. But in spite of this, coming hot on the heels of the international fashion weeks, this week seemed to bring a shade of calm with it. We swooned over a plethora of beautiful gowns, got excited by new trends and sighed with relief that some of last season’s trends are here to stay. Here’s our quick round-up of some of the trends we saw from a few of the shows.
Sheer and sparkly
We saw it at London Fashion Week, now we’ve seen it roll onto the bridal catwalks. Sparkles were all over the place! A trusted staple for any wedding gown, we saw it mixed with sheer panels on many runways. A gorgeous trend for brides that want to add a dazzling hint of sexiness to their gown.
Feathery friends
Adding texture to gowns across the week, feathers were a popular embellishment for New York Bridal Fashion Week’s 2018 collections. From fluffy skirts to ruffled bustles and soft stoles, this whimsical addition is one that we love!
Waist trains
Don’t worry, we don’t mean corsets you can’t breathe in! Trains that start at the waist instead of flowing down through the skirt were a popular dress feature. A cross between a standard train and a separate cape (which are also still around – hooray!).
Dare to bare
Off the shoulder dresses appeared across the show, gracing the catwalks of Galia Lahav, Naeem Khan and Marchesa. Allowing for a pretty sleeve or elegant floating detail, this is a perfect trend for an autumn or winter wedding, giving just that little extra cover up to a strapless dress.
A new kind of fairytale
Romantic, soft silhouettes floated down every runway. Puffball princess gowns may once have been the ultimate in bridal fashion, but the more relaxed, ethereal dresses are becoming a major feature of designers’ collections. The use of soft fabrics and elegant layers adds to the luxurious feel. A prefect trend for popular outdoor weddings.
We adored seeing the exciting new collections from some of our favourite designers at New York Bridal Fashion Week. It’s clear that there has been so much passion poured into the exquisite designs and we loved seeing the culmination of all that hard work. This can only mean good things for the brides that wear them!
