Sandy beaches, balmy sunsets and snorkelling off coral reefs are what gorgeous sunny honeymoon dreams are made of. But I quite like the idea of snuggling up next to a roaring Alpine fire, or gazing up at Aurora Borealis, or sipping champagne in a bubbling hot tub overlooking snowy slopes. Here are my 5 Star top five winter honeymoon spots.
Snow and spa in Aspen, Colorado
Tuck yourself up in the mountains, where you’ll find skiing, shopping, spa and seclusion. Sounds perfect! How about Aspen in Colorado? A luxury suite in an iconic hotel would give the perfect escape. Start the day with cross country skiiing, take a dog-sled ride through the snowy Colorado back country and finish with a restorative massage in the spa. Check out Hotel Jerome for more tempting details.

Aurora Borealis in Finland
If we’re talking winter honeymoons, we have to mention Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort in Finland where you can stay in your own glass igloo in the forest. Located in Lapland, the warm, insulated igloos offer views of the Northern Lights for eight months of the year, and the resort also offers reindeer, husky and snowmobile safaris to see the gorgeous landscape.

Icehotel in Sweden
If you’d rather stay in an authentic igloo, complete with ice, then the Icehotel in Sweden is for you. Each year designers create unique artwork and ice carvings for the hotel, which melts in the spring. Sleeping bags and a complimentary sauna are provided for those who spend the night. You can even get married there, in their stunning ice cathedral.

Castle luxury in Canada
Surrounded by river valleys and enchanting forests, the snow covered mountain peaks of Banff are a stunning display. The 5 star luxury castle-like Fairmont Banff Springs is set in the heart of Banff National Park and boasts a heated outdoor pool, gorgeous suites and 11 restaurants. Oh, and that view, of course…

Hot springs in Iceland
Mountains, hot springs and glaciers await in Iceland, one of the most beautiful landscapes in the world. Another chance to spot the Northern Lights while enjoying the delights of a luxury hotel. Set in the unique lava landscape of Thingvellir National Park, ION Adventure Hotel is remote and secluded, a perfect escape. It’s an hour’s drive from Rekjavik and provides tours to nearby hot springs and waterfalls. Onsite, they have a spa, geothermally heated outdoor pool and haute cuisine restaurant. You can even request a wake up call, should the Northern Lights appear.
