Spring Wedding Trends – with Aimee Dunne

We love looking at what’s hot right now, so we caught up with luxury wedding planner, Aimee Dunne to see what she thinks is on trend this season.

Green

“It’s all about the greens this spring. The Pantone colour of the year for 2017 is greenery, which is so on trend with all of the foliage and herbs we’re seeing couples using. This also works beautifully with a more sophisticated wedding trend at this time of year; think green foliage with silver and white accents. Flowers are also being used for detailing with all this greenery rather than as the main focal point, such as white roses with green foliage. For maximum impact add in some trees for a real wow factor.

Hang it up

“Hanging installations. Think big and elaborate. In the world of luxury weddings, we’re seeing more large installations with inspiration from the likes of Preston Bailey. This also works for other elements of weddings such as escort cards displayed on hanging mirrors, or a dessert table that descends from the ceiling in the evening. Hoops are also being used, which work great for hanging foliage and florals from ceilings like a botanical chandelier.

Creative Catering

“Interactive food and creative catering are still popular, and with the weather looking good this spring, these could really work. Locally sourced menus, authentic food, and anything with a story attached are a big hit. Think simple and authentic. Guest involvement is also really popular, making food and drink part of the entertainment and not just something to fill a few hours. At high-end weddings, this can be done really well as there is the budget to do something different and really creative and use the best chefs and ingredients.

Cake choices

“Drip wedding cakes are increasingly popular. These are seen as less formal but more elaborate and special creations are now available. If you’re still not sure that they’re special enough, gemstones on cakes are also on the up and can look super special. Marble décor and cakes are also popular and coupled with copper detailing this is a look that can work really well for spring.

Gin

“Gin, and all variations of it. Gin has had such a resurgence and continues to do so. There are so many flavours available and it works fantastically well in cocktails. Spring is as good a time as any to drink gin!

Capes

“Capes. Yes, I said capes. On dresses. We’ve seen dresses with pockets and two pieces, but now they dress with capes. These have been making an appearance on the catwalks since 2016 from designers such as Justin Alexander. These are a great way for brides to make a statement or if you like the idea of having a veil or train but are worried about ruining your hair. Pastels and tea-length dresses are also popular for 2017 and spring is a great time of year for them.  Or if you really want to be on trend go for a tea-length dress with a cape.”
