How To Be A Vivienne Westwood Bride

How To Be A Vivienne Westwood Bride Press day at Vivienne Westwood’s exclusive Davies Street boutique was, as one would expect, a meeting of some of the fashion industry’s finest.

I had been invited to view five new key silhouettes for Autumn-Winter 2015/16 couture and bridal collection. Gold, Pearl White and Black signature gowns stood amongst a very English setting of Strawberries and sparkling wine. On the press day, she was proved to be exemplary, which was, no doubt, a reflection of the service a bride might expect at this designer bridal boutique.

How To Be A Vivienne Westwood Bride

Private appointments can be made at the Davies Street boutique to meet with the Vivienne Westwood couture team, who will help you choose or create beautiful bespoke bridal pieces.

There is the full couture service whereby brides can opt for a bespoke ‘made-to-measure’ Vivienne Westwood dress. A ‘made-to-measure’ gown is personally designed with a choice of fabric, finishing’s and silhouettes available. The Vivienne Westwood couture team tailor a toile to the bride’s body, which is then used to create the gown to the bride’s exact shape and taste in the Vivienne Westwood London atelier.

Bridal gowns are available from a selection of distinctive ‘off-the-peg’ Vivienne Westwood styles and silhouettes, which change each season in line with the Vivienne Westwood Gold Label collection.

Vivienne Westwood brides can opt for a dress tailored to their taste. A choice of eight classic Vivienne Westwood styles can be ‘made-to-order’ in a selection of fabrics and finishings to the nearest dress size.

The bridal collections at Davies St remain faithful to Vivienne’s firm belief that femininity should be celebrated. Her creations’ tailoring, crinoline, corsetry, or soft lines all enhance the feminine silhouette. In Vivienne’s own words:

“My clothes allow you to project your personality and are quite theatrical in that they are real clothes, well-designed – they give you a chance to express yourself.”

Autumn- Winter 2015/16 Vivienne Westwood Bridal Collection
The five new silhouettes for Autumn-Winter 2015/16 are a contemporary take on the classic Vivienne Westwood style. Corsetry is dropped for softer but still structured looks, while capes, trouser suits and asymmetric necklines give this season’s Vivienne Westwood bride a chance to be contrary.

The Virginia Cape is a non-corseted dress first seen as part of the Vivienne Westwood Gold Label Spring- Summer 2015 collection. It adopts the distinctive Westwood couture look in pearl white double georgette with a demure cowl neckline. Complete with an ultra-feminine exaggerated shoulder detail, a small tiered cape delicately falls from the shoulder to the middle, revealing a hint of the wearer’s back. The hemline also adopts a classic Westwood design detail, with a rectangular panel at the back of the dress, dropping from the waist to a long length at the front and shorter at the back.

The Ginnie dress is also a new non-corseted piece in the Vivienne Westwood bridal collection, created as an alternative to the classic Vivienne Westwood corseted Cocotte dress. Draping across each shoulder and gathering across the neck, the Ginnie delicately gathers at the waist to accentuate the bride’s silhouette. The Ginnie presents a more relaxed approach for the Westwood bride and is available in a custom ivory Ermine patterned silk jacquard.

Experimental pattern cutting is why Vivienne Westwood has such an instantly recognisable couture style, and the Long Spiral dress reflects that. The silk faille gown is created using a unique technique of cutting on a spiral. The dress is finished on the bias, with a dramatic billowing skirt and finished at the shoulder to create an asymmetric neckline.

The Fig dress is a typical belle époque inspired couture piece with an oversized dramatic neckline. The Fig nips in at the waist and then billows out to create a historical bustled style skirt, gathered on the hip in a custom ivory Ermine patterned silk jacquard.

Creating a sartorial edge to the classic Westwood bridal collection, the Freddy Frame jacket, Freddy Frame trousers and Freddy Frame skirt are introduced as a sophisticated alternative. The silhouette of the two-piece suit is inspired by the work of 19th Century English designer Charles Worth, available in white and black in a wool and silk cannette or textured floral jacquard, with a heavy satin trim to finish.
