Valentines Day Inspiration Mood Board, Dotty for Poppies

Dolce & Gabbana never fail to wow us with the collections that waltz down the runway. Their Summer collection was no different. With simple shapes and rich details inspired by Sicily, the collection was awash with bold red, white and black pieces, each as eye-catching as the last.

We fell head over heels for this polka dot number, with a modest shape casting a gorgeous feminine silhouette. The polka dot print in black and white stands out with big red blooms bursting from beneath; a daring and alternative dress for brides who aren’t afraid to make a style statement.

Taking the dress as inspiration for the theme of the wedding day, we have devised a Dress Then The Rest mood board that is totally dotty for poppies.

Valentines Wedding Mood Board

The theme works around a simple colour palette. To feel the power of the poppy, mix charcoal black with poppy red. Bright white adds a striking contrast against the bolder colours but include softer hues, such as glacier grey to balance out the look.

To set the scene for your big day, it’s all about the polka dot details -small and sweet like tiny poppy seeds. Cast a polka dot wash of light over your room with gobo lights to add some ‘almost there’ wall prints and patterns.

For some ‘actually there’ décor, mix big with small by hanging clusters of giant honeycomb balls in polka dot print around your venue. To keep the look fun and feminine, bright red poppy flowers with paper thin petals should be in abundance, giving your wedding that flower power!

A simple white tablescape with bursts of red poppies in grey glass bottles is perfect for this look. Lay your table with a hand lettered menu and a single red poppy on top of a polka dot plate.

And for the part that’s almost as important as the dress… feeding and watering your guests!

Mini strawberry cheesecakes on a lemon and poppy seed sponge will be the perfect sweet treat for guests to nibble on. To keep your guests hydrated, serve up strawberry and mint cocktails as a celebration of all that grows in the fields.

For a wedding cake that wows, why not try a naked red sponge cake layered with bright white icing and adorned with big red poppy flowers.

And for the finishing touches…

Hand out tiny envelopes with ‘Let Love Bloom’ hand lettered on the front as wedding favours. Your guests will love the poppy seeds inside spreading the poppy power from your wedding day and beyond.

Capture the moment by shooting your wedding photos in lush green fields whilst you hold onto a giant oversized paper poppy. Or hold up big red balloons to get some fun, striking snaps of the day you’ll never forget!

Our Dotty for Poppies wedding is the perfect match for this Dolce & Gabbana. If you’d rather a nod, than the full look, then bring the spirit of Dolce by accessorising with dark red lips, a polka dot veil and holding a bouquet of fresh red poppies and deep purple berries.
