AD|PR Stay

Carvings, columns, chandeliers, frescoes and acres of marble give you all the Old World glamour you need at Anantara New York Palace Budapest Hotel. Of course, there’s plenty of modern luxury mixed in, to provide a gorgeously relaxing stay. The hotel gets its name from its historic roots – it was once the HQ for New York Insurance – and next door boasts the world’s most photographed café, New York Café.

My stay started with a trip to see the New York Café, a favourite of poets, artists and writers for many years. It is a gold, ornate palace in Italian Renaissance style, with guests visiting from around the world just to catch a glimpse and a selfie! Its impressive marble columns, crystal chandeliers ad incredible frescoes make it a must-see on any trip to Budapest.

My room

A gorgeous, spacious and modern room awaited me, with a marble bathroom and a Rubik’s cube on the side. Apparently, it was invented in Hungary – you learn something new every day!

Beautiful afternoon tea with delicious cakes was set out to welcome me, which was so lovely. The hotel has 185 rooms and suites and is set in the historic downtown of Budapest, perfect for exploring. There are trams to take you around town, and there’s plenty to see and do.

The spa at Anantara New York Palace Budapest Hotel

The spa is so peaceful; an underground network of cave-style spaces with a sauna, steam room and experience showers, as well as a pool. There’s also a tea lounge and indulgent treatments on offer for men and women including a wine mask and a beer scrub!

Dining at the New York Café

Dinner was served in the New York Café, which I had been looking forward to all day! I just couldn’t stop staring at the ceilings, with the stunning frescoes and the intricate plasterwork. A wedding here would need no extra decoration! And I can see why plenty of designers choose to shoot their wedding dress collections here, it’s simply striking

Menu highlights include the Emperor Experience, with Hungarian sausages, strudel and tea; a lavish afternoon tea; and a 24-carat-gold cappuccino served with chocolate and raspberry cake. I was here for dinner, however, and enjoyed an Asian dumpling to start, followed by delicious grilled seabass and a selection of cakes to finish. The surroundings were beautiful and the food divine, wrapped in 130 years of history. I also got to enjoy breakfast here the next morning, it was such a treat!

Weddings at Anantara New York Palace Budapest Hotel

Magdalena showed me around the wedding rooms that the hotel has; three romantic spaces for ‘A Belle Epoque Fairytale’. Rome – the banquet hall – has a neutral palette, making it ideal to add your own florals and colours. It can accommodate up to 350 guests.
