Italy has long held an extraordinary place in the world of destination weddings. From the magnificent villas of Lake Como and the rolling vineyards of Tuscany to the dramatic Amalfi Coast, the historic streets of Rome and the sunlit landscapes of Sicily, few countries offer such a remarkable combination of beauty, heritage, hospitality and romance.

For couples planning a wedding abroad, Italy represents far more than a beautiful setting. It offers the opportunity to create an experience that brings together family, friends, exceptional cuisine, cultural discovery and some of Europe’s most celebrated destinations.

Behind these celebrations is a thriving international industry connecting wedding planners, luxury hotels, historic estates, tourism organisations and creative professionals with couples from around the world.

On 3 and 4 November 2026, this international community will gather in Rome for the 12th edition of BMII, Bridal and Tourism in Italy, one of the country’s established business events dedicated to destination weddings and wedding tourism.

Taking place at Hotel Cristoforo Colombo, the event is expected to welcome 70 international buyers, according to Italian press coverage published in September 2026, with participants building personalised agendas of around 25 business meetings each.

For 5 Star Wedding Directory, the occasion marks a welcome return to BMII following our attendance in 2024, providing another opportunity to reconnect with Italy’s wedding industry and discover the venues, destinations and professionals shaping its future.

A Meeting Point for the International Wedding Industry

Established in 2014, BMII, also known as Borsa del Matrimonio in Italia, was created to connect international demand for weddings in Italy with the country’s extensive network of wedding and tourism businesses.

Over the years, the event has developed into a broader international platform, reflecting the increasingly close relationship between destination weddings, luxury hospitality and experiential travel.

Today, BMII brings together a diverse professional community, including wedding planners, destination wedding agencies, luxury travel designers, tour operators and honeymoon specialists.

On the Italian side, participants represent a wide spectrum of the country’s wedding and tourism offering, from luxury hotels and exclusive resorts to historic residences, castles, private villas, destination management companies and specialist wedding professionals.

The event is built around a structured programme of individual business meetings, allowing international buyers to connect directly with Italian suppliers whose services and destinations align with their clients’ requirements.

Through an online matchmaking platform, participants can arrange appointments in advance, creating a focused environment for meaningful professional conversations.

For Italian wedding venues and hospitality businesses looking to develop their international presence, this offers an opportunity to build relationships with professionals already working with couples considering Italy for their celebrations.

International Buyers from at Least Twenty Five Markets

The international reach of BMII is one of its defining characteristics.

The 2026 edition is expected to welcome buyers from at least 25 markets, reflecting the broad appeal of Italy as a destination for weddings, honeymoons and luxury travel experiences.

Participating markets include the United Kingdom, United States, Brazil, Mexico, Singapore, South Africa, the United Arab Emirates, France, Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Spain and numerous other European and international destinations.

With each participant building an agenda of around 25 personalised meetings, BMII offers a concentrated opportunity for Italian businesses to present their properties, destinations and services to an international professional audience.

The programme begins on Tuesday 3 November with scheduled meetings throughout the morning and afternoon, followed by an evening event for buyers at 18:30.

Business appointments continue on Wednesday 4 November, with the official programme concluding at 1pm.

Beyond the formal meetings, the event creates opportunities for networking, exchanging ideas and developing relationships that can extend well beyond the two days in Rome.

Beyond the Wedding Day: The Rise of Wedding Tourism

One of the most significant developments in the destination wedding industry is the growing relationship between weddings and the wider travel experience.

For many international couples, choosing Italy is no longer simply about finding the perfect location for a ceremony and reception.

It is about creating a celebration that allows family and friends to discover a destination together.

A wedding in Tuscany might begin with a welcome dinner overlooking the vineyards, followed by a ceremony at a historic estate and a farewell gathering featuring local cuisine and wines.

On the Amalfi Coast, celebrations may incorporate private boat excursions, coastal dining and several days of hospitality overlooking the Mediterranean.

In Rome, couples and their guests can combine wedding festivities with the city’s extraordinary architecture, art, history and culinary traditions.

These experiences extend the celebration beyond a single day and create opportunities for a much wider network of local businesses.

Hotels, restaurants, transport providers, tour operators, local producers and specialist wedding professionals all contribute to the experience.

This relationship between weddings and tourism is central to BMII’s evolving vision.

According to Italian press coverage published in September 2026 (Adnkronos, 14 September), more than 16,000 weddings involving foreign couples were recorded in Italy during the previous year, and wedding tourism passed one billion euros in turnover over that time.

The figures, reported in connection with BMII, illustrate the growing economic importance of international weddings and their contribution to the country’s hospitality and tourism sectors.

For Italy, the opportunity extends beyond attracting couples to its most famous destinations. It also involves encouraging visitors to discover the country’s regional diversity, cultural heritage and distinctive hospitality experiences.

Discovering Italy Beyond Its Most Famous Wedding Destinations

Lake Como, Tuscany, Venice and the Amalfi Coast remain among the most recognisable names in international destination weddings.

Yet Italy offers a far greater variety of locations than these celebrated destinations alone.

From the vineyards of Piedmont and the historic estates of Umbria to the countryside of Puglia, the coastlines of Calabria and the cultural richness of Sicily, couples have an extraordinary range of possibilities to explore.

For international wedding planners and travel specialists, discovering these alternatives is becoming increasingly valuable.

Not every couple dreams of a grand lakeside villa or a celebrated coastal hotel.

Some are searching for an intimate countryside retreat, a privately owned historic residence, an exclusive boutique property or a destination that offers greater privacy and individuality.

Others want to create celebrations that reflect a deeper connection with Italian culture, food, architecture and local traditions.

Events such as BMII provide an opportunity for regional tourism organisations and individual businesses to introduce these lesser known destinations to international professionals.

By bringing together representatives from different regions, the event encourages a broader understanding of Italy’s wedding offering.

It also creates opportunities for emerging destinations to establish stronger identities within the international wedding market.

The People Behind BMII

The continued development of BMII reflects the work of a team committed to strengthening the relationship between Italy’s wedding industry and the international tourism market.

Ottorino Duratorre, President of BMII, has highlighted the importance of destination weddings as an economic driver for Italian hospitality and tourism.

In Italian press coverage ahead of the 2026 edition, he emphasised how the wedding itself can become the starting point for a wider travel experience, bringing visitors into contact with local accommodation, culture, gastronomy and tourism services.

This broader perspective reflects the evolution of BMII from an event focused primarily on weddings into a professional platform connecting the wedding and tourism sectors.

Together with the wider BMII organisation, the team continues to create opportunities for Italian businesses to develop connections with international wedding and travel professionals.

Why Personal Relationships Still Matter

In an industry increasingly influenced by digital discovery, online research and changing consumer expectations, personal relationships remain essential.

This is particularly true in the luxury destination wedding market.

For international wedding planners, recommending a venue involves far more than admiring its photographs or reviewing its accommodation.

They need confidence in the property’s capabilities, its approach to hospitality, its understanding of international expectations and its ability to deliver a celebration that reflects the couple’s vision.

Likewise, Italian venues benefit from understanding the requirements of different international markets.

A wedding planner working with American couples may have different expectations from a specialist arranging intimate celebrations for British or European clients.

Guest accommodation, event timings, catering arrangements, privacy, accessibility and the overall wedding experience can all influence the suitability of a destination.

Meeting in person provides an opportunity to explore these considerations in greater detail.

It allows professionals to move beyond initial introductions and establish the trust and understanding on which successful partnerships are built.

BMII’s structured meeting format creates a setting for these conversations, bringing together businesses with shared interests and the potential to collaborate.

Through 5 Star Wedding Directory and Luxury Wedding Directory, we continue to explore the intersection of luxury weddings, travel, hospitality and exceptional experiences.

Our editorial approach is rooted in discovering not only beautiful places, but also the people, creativity and expertise that make extraordinary celebrations possible.

I look forward to meeting both familiar faces and new industry professionals in Rome this November, among them Italian venues, wedding planners and vendors.

Looking Ahead: The Future of Destination Weddings in Italy

As the international wedding industry continues to evolve, Italy remains exceptionally well positioned to attract couples seeking memorable celebrations abroad.

Its strength lies not simply in the beauty of its destinations, but in the depth and diversity of the experiences it can offer.

Historic architecture, distinctive regional traditions, celebrated cuisine, outstanding hospitality and an extensive network of talented wedding professionals combine to create an offering that few destinations can replicate.

At the same time, the expectations of international couples continue to develop.

Personalisation, privacy, exceptional guest experiences and celebrations extending across several days are becoming increasingly important considerations within the luxury wedding market.

For Italian venues and tourism businesses, understanding these expectations and building strong international relationships will remain essential.

BMII provides a platform for these conversations, bringing together professionals who share an interest in the future of weddings and travel in Italy.

As the 12th edition approaches, the event offers another opportunity to showcase the country’s extraordinary wedding offering to the world.

5 Star Wedding Directory looks forward to returning to Rome on 3 and 4 November 2026 and sharing further insights, discoveries and conversations from BMII.
