Choosing where to marry
Which Indonesia suits you
For a volcano and rice terraces
East Bali holds some of the island's most dramatic geography. Sidemen Valley cuts inland from the Lombok Strait, with Mount Agung, the island's sacred volcano, filling the horizon.
For a managed resort enclave
Nusa Dua is a planned resort enclave on the southeastern tip of the Bukit Peninsula. The Bali Tourism Development Corporation built it from the 1970s to concentrate large-scale international tourism in one managed zone.
For an island away from the mainland
The Nusa Islands lie in the Badung Strait, southeast of the Bali mainland. The islands suit couples who want a natural setting and a break from the commercial tourism of the mainland, not a resort island in the Bali sense.

Questions couples ask
Before you decide
What is the distance between Sidemen and Ubud?
It is a short drive, depending on the route. Some couples split the stay, using East Bali for the ceremony and Ubud for the wider group in the days around it.
Is Mount Agung visible from the ceremony?
From the Candidasa resort and most properties in Sidemen Valley, yes, on clear mornings and evenings. The mountain is often in cloud by midday, so early morning and late afternoon slots are timed to take advantage of the view.
What makes Nusa Dua suit a large wedding better than Ubud or Uluwatu?
Scale, operational reliability and airport convenience. The large resorts have indoor ballrooms that work regardless of weather, the toll road keeps transfers dependable, and the area is the driest in Bali.
What is a Jimbaran beach warung dinner?
The warungs along Jimbaran Bay grill the day's catch over coconut husk embers. Diners choose fish, lobster or prawns from an ice display and eat at a table on the sand facing the sunset, with sambal matah alongside. It is informal and rooted in local fishing culture.
Is a large wedding practical on the Nusa Islands?
Not straightforwardly. Accommodation is small and every guest arrives by fast boat, so a large group depends on careful boat logistics and a mainland contingency.
Does the manta ray encounter work as a wedding activity?
Yes. Oceanic manta rays feed in the currents off Manta Point on the southwest coast of Nusa Penida. It is a snorkel, not a dive, organised through operators mostly based on Nusa Lembongan, and it runs all year, most reliably in the dry season. It suits confident swimmers only.
