About Hotel Bel-Air

Hotel Bel-Air is a 12-acre canyon-estate hotel in Los Angeles with seven wedding spaces, a ceremony setting at Swan Lake and catering by a Wolfgang Puck kitchen.

Hotel Bel-Air stands on part of the land Alphonzo Bell bought west of Los Angeles and named Bel-Air. His estate planning office survives as the hotel's mission-style main building. Joseph Drown bought eighteen of those acres in 1946 and, with architect Burton Schutt, opened the hotel on 24 August that year. It joined the Dorchester Collection in 2008, and all 103 rooms and the public spaces were renovated with designer Alexandra Champalimaud and the Rockwell Group.

Weddings use seven event spaces across the 12-acre canyon estate. Swan Lake, with its grotto, stone bridges, gazebo and resident swans, is the signature ceremony setting for up to 120. The Garden Ballroom, with mercury-glass chandeliers and an arched ceiling, holds up to 250 for a reception, and the Front Lawn seats up to 250. The Garden Courtyard and the wood-panelled Palm Room complete the choice. Catering is in-house only, under the direction of Wolfgang Puck. The hotel is minutes from Beverly Hills and Century City, and about 30 to 45 minutes from Los Angeles International Airport.

From a planning office to a hotel

Alphonzo Bell bought 600 acres west of Los Angeles and named the area Bel-Air, building an estate planning office whose mission-style building survives as the hotel's main house. In 1946 Joseph Drown bought eighteen of those acres and, with architect Burton Schutt, opened the hotel on 24 August.
